Division of Facilities Management - South District

The Division of Facilities exists to plan, design, construct, operate, maintain and manage the Colorado Department of Human Services (CDHS) facilities and campuses according to all applicable standards in a manner that promotes the CDHS mission of providing safe, sanitary and effective environment for clients, youth, residents, consumers and staff and enhances the quality of life in CDHS facilities and campuses and the surrounding neighborhoods.

Facilities served: Colorado Mental Health Hospital in Pueblo (CMHHIP), Pueblo Regional Center (PRC), Department of Corrections (DOC), Division of Youth Services (Zeb Pike, Spring Creek and Pueblo Youth Services Center) and the Veteran’s Community Living Centers in the southern district.

This position exists to perform plumbing at a journeyman level and building maintenance for facilities served in the South District


Responsibilities includebut are not limited to:

Maintain Plumbing Systems:
  • Drive to location and install, maintain, and perform emergency repair of plumbing fixtures, water supply valves, hot and cold water piping, sewer drainage piping, all sewer drainage traps, chill water equipment, water softeners, water heaters, kitchen appliances and hydronic pumps
  • Install, maintain, alter and/or repair steam equipment and piping (high and low), air piping, steam traps, condensate equipment and piping, gas piping and all facility pumps
  • Monitor and repair control valves to systems and equipment
Building Maintenance
  • Perform general routine maintenance functions in all Southern District Facilities.
  • Respond to work requests phoned into the maintenance dispatch desk during normal operating and after hours.
  • Inspect the facilities and generate work orders for necessary repairs such as burnt out lights, leaking faucets, loose hinges and all types of damage caused by patients and staff.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, maintain, adjust and make minor repairs to various types of locks i.e. penal, residential, and commercial grade locks
  • Snake plugged sanitary lines using appropriate equipment, to include but not limited to unplugging stools, urinals, sinks, floor drains and main sewer lines.
  • Repair residential, institutional, and penal fixtures i.e. dripping faucets, running water closets, and urinals, to include but not limited to replacement of washers, seats, traps, valves, supply lines. P-traps, handles, diaphragms, vacuum breaker, molded disk.
  • Perform electrical repair, replace ballast, replace lights, repair and replace light fixtures and replace light switches.
  • Secure / repair damaged windows caused by patients.
  • Adjust door hinges to allow doors to close properly, adjust door closures.
  • Repair damage to faculties finish and systems. Repair walls, ceilings, roofs, floors and accentuated systems. Replace flooring material and coverings, including floor tile, sheet goods, wall base and accessories, repair cabinet and counter tops to include millwork hardware.
  • Apply paint to walls, surfaces, doors, casings, caseworks, gym floors, mechanical room, handrails bollards, by spraying, brushing, rolling. Parking lot striping. In a professional and timely manner.
  • Snow removal.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Special Qualification

Applicants must possess an active Journeyworker/Journeyman or Master Plumber license issued by the State of Colorado. A copy of your license must be attached to your application. Must obtain an Asbestos abatement certification during employment with DFM.

Experience OnlyApplicants must have at least three years of full-time plumbing experience that led to the Colorado Plumbing license (Journeyworker/Master).

This experience must be clearly documented in your application.OREducation and ExperienceA combination of related education, a formalized apprenticeship program, and/or relevant experience equal to three (3) years.

Conditions of Employment
  • This position requires State of Colorado residency at the time of application, and residency within the state throughout the duration of employment in this position.
  • A full pre-employment criminal background check will be conducted as part of the selection process as this position is deemed to have direct contact with vulnerable persons.

  • Must be willing to submit and pass a full background check.
  • Must currently possess and maintain throughout employment in this position, an active Journeyworker/Journeyman or Master Plumber license issued by the State of Colorado.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid non-restricted Colorado driver’s license.
    • Out-of-State Driver’s License holders must obtain a valid, non-restricted Colorado Driver’s License within 30 days of employment start date.
  • Must successfully pass Motor Vehicle Check
  • Travel – This position will be required to drive State Vehicles as part of daily work assignment from site to site equipped with tools to perform daily duties. Travel to training and meetings. On occasion, this position travels to other districts.
  • Must be willing to receive an annual influenza vaccination or provide a document for a medical exemption or a letter for religious exemption.
  • Must successfully pass a Tuberculosis (TB) test.
  • Must be available for call back/on-call to perform essential and/or emergency services without delay and/or without interruption.
  • Must be available for shift work. Will be required to work various hours for coverage, weather related issues and essential/emergency services outside of normal business hours.
  • Use, Handling, or Exposure to hazardous materials – Explain: Proximity to moving, mechanical parts, Exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals., Exposure to electrical shock, and or working in high exposed places.
  • Former State employees who were disciplinarily terminated or resigned in lieu of termination must:
    • Disclose that information on the application.
    • Explain why the prior termination or resignation should not disqualify you from the current position.
    • Provide your employee number from your prior State employment. Absent extraordinary circumstances, prior disciplinary termination or resignation in lieu of termination and failure to provide this information will disqualify the applicant from future State employment with CDHS.
CDHS Selection Process
Employment history is calculated on a full-time basis (40/hrs per week). Part-time employment is calculated on a prorated basis to determine qualifications. Minimum Qualification Screening Process
