The VA North Texas Health Care System is recruiting for a Pipefitter.
The Pipefitter position is located within the Engineering Department and the primary functions include working with pipes and fittings from a range of high pressure to low pressure steam.

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position.

SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire.
Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week.
Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Heavy lifting and carrying 45 pounds and over; straight pulling (1 hour); pulling hand over hand (1 hour); pushing 1 hour); reaching above shoulder, use of fingers; both hands required; walking and standing 4 hours; crawling and kneeling 4 hours; repeated bending 4 hours; climbing legs only; climbing use of legs and arms; ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously.
Major Duties:
The incumbent of this position is required to install, maintain, and repair all plumbing facilities and equipment such as showers, sinks, toilets, sterilizes, dishwashing machines, floor drains, faucets, drinking fountains, wall bubblers, sewer mains, drain lines, sprinkler system and laundry equipment such as washers, heat exchangers, water softeners, stills, hot and cold water drainage and sewer distribution systems.
Employee maintains/repairs the medical air, oxygen, vacuum and gas system to include the related components and subsystem.
Installs, maintains and repairs steam equipment throughout the hospital repairs laundry and dietetic equipment which includes steam mains from boiler house, steam cookers, steam tables, pressure cookers, hot water heaters, radiators, steam traps, condense and steam distribution system; repairs and replaces defective gas and air lines; installs and replaces pipe covering.
Employee maintains laundry equipment with regard to steam connections, etc.
