Full Job Description

This position is open for one vacancy in the Rocky Mountain Regional VA Medical Center is located in Aurora, Colorado Sleep Section within Specialty Care.

The Sleep Section physician within the Service provides medical care in the spectrum of their field services to eligible veterans. Services are provided to both inpatients and outpatients.

The incumbent is required to interact not only with the veteran, but also family, significant others, community agencies, and other staff.

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement.

Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.

Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.

Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.

Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.

The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.

Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.

Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.

(NOTE: VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.) Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), b) OR [(2) Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA),OR (3) Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiences.

Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs).

PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis.

PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; rather, they are to have a "scope of practice" that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision.

Additionally, surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Preferred Experience: Board Eligibility/Certification preferred.

Start, continue, or finish your career here | VA Eastern Colorado Health Care System(youtube.com) This vacancy will primarily be an outpatient position focused on sleep medicine, and will involve opportunities with trainees in sleep and pulmonary medicine.

The inpatient duties will be limited to occasional inpatient sleep consults for veterans in our Spinal Cord Injury center and less frequently the inpatient wards.

If desired by the qualified applicant, some time on the teaching services for the Intensive Care Unit and/or Pulmonary Consult service may be available.

DUTIES: Incumbent will work as an independent physician provider in the Sleep Section within the Medicine Service line.

They will provide medical care in the spectrum of their field of board eligible/board certified expertise in all aspects of patient care including outpatient care, and if desired, inpatient care.

The incumbent will participate in patient care, teaching, research, quality improvement, and administrative activities of the Division, as assigned.

The incumbent will be responsible for, but not limited to the following duties: Provide expert consultation and treatment to patients in areas of personal expertise in the outpatient sleep clinics.

Triage and evaluate consultations for inpatient and outpatient sleep specialty. Obtain medical histories, conduct physical examinations, order, and evaluate appropriate laboratory testing.

Plan and prescribe treatment for patients. Interpretation of sleep studies including Polysomnography, home sleep tests, PAP titrations, Multiple Sleep Latency Test, and other sleep testing.

Coordinate medical management and care within their discipline with Primary Care providers and other Medical/Surgical services and personnel in a multidisciplinary health care delivery system.

If inpatient service is desired, the incumbent will provide on-call services for the section as assigned, sharing after hour call responsibilities with section physicians in rotation.

Participate in monitoring the quality, safety, and appropriateness of patient care, both at the Section and facility level.

Incumbent will perform administrative tasks as assigned, including, but not limited to peer reviews, Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluations (OPPE), special projects that help fulfill and/or enhance the mission of the Department of Veterans Affairs as assigned by the Chief of Medicine/Chief of Staff/ELT.

Qualified/eligible to receive a University of Colorado - Anschutz faculty appointment in the Department of Medicine to work with trainees. VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package.
