This temporary role involves leading the emergency medicine department at a VA medical center in Wichita, Kansas, for up to 120 days, focusing on overseeing operations, planning, and supervising emergency care for veterans.

The Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center is seeking a Physician for a detail (not-to-exceed 120 days) to the Chief of Emergency Medicine position.
This detail is only open to current employees of the Veterans Health Administration.

Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.
Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.
The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
(NOTE: VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.) Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), b) OR [(2) Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA),OR (3) Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiences.
Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs).
PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis.
PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; rather, they are to have a "scope of practice" that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision.
Additionally, surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Preferred Experience: Emergency medicine board certification or board eligible.
Experience in Emergency Medicine, administration and leadership in operations, planning, and supervising in ER.

Requires lifting 15-44 pounds; pushing (approx. 2 hours); reaching above shoulder; use of fingers and both hands; walking and standing from 3-5 hours and kneeling.
Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously. Near vision correctable at 13" to 16" to Jaeger 1 to 4.
Far visions correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other. Must have depth perception and ability to distinguish basic colors and shades of colors. Hearing aid is permitted. Major Duties:
The Chief, Emergency Medicine is responsible for providing administrative guidance and oversight to the Emergency Department, Employee Health, and Occupational Health, as well as serving as a clinical provider.
It is anticipated that the breakdown between clinical and administrative time will be half clinical and half administrative but may vary due to facility needs.
The detailed employee directly reports to the Chief of Staff. Approval from your current supervisor will be required for this detail.
The duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: This position is primarily clinical in nature, and may work work up to 75% clinical depending on staffing needs of the department.
Recruit, retain and maintain well qualified Emergency Department, Employee Health, Midlevel providers and Occupational Health physicians.
Schedule staff to ensure adequate coverage, and serving as Emergency Department, Employee Health and Occupational Health liaison with hospital administration and medical staff.
Will have primary responsibility for the Emergency Department, Employee Health, and Occupational Health mid-level providers.
Must demonstrate leadership skills and a high degree of personal and professional skills, interpersonal relations, critical thinking, and problem solving and conflict resolution.
Provide primary managerial and supervisory direction of the Emergency Department, Employee Health, and Occupational Health.
Provide strategic management of the service, including personnel management and requests for additional resources and lead in developing the annual strategic plan for the Emergency Department, Employee Health, and Occupational Health.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm
