Summary

Key Requirements

  • Licensure as a physician assistant by the Iowa Board of Physician Assistants
  • Registration with the Iowa Board of Pharmacy
  • Registration with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA)
  • Experience managing chronic conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, and COPD
  • Ability to perform physical examinations, order diagnostic tests (e.g., labs, x-rays), and conduct minor procedures (e.g., suturing, foreign body removal)
  • For Department of Public Health positions: Graduation from a recognized pathologists' assistant program or licensure as a PA with two years of full-time pathology experience

Full Job Description

Review intake admissions and issue orders for individuals entering IMCC.
Perform physical examinations for new intakes, as well as routine physicals of the general population scheduled per DOC policy.
Manage chronic health conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, COPD, and similar conditions in accordance with DOC policy.
Assess referrals from nursing and ancillary Health Services staff for new or acute medical issues.
Individual patient encounters may involve referring to specialty medical services, ordering laboratory tests, requesting x-rays or other diagnostic studies, and performing minor procedures (e.g., simple suturing, foreign body removal, nail extraction) as necessary

Qualifications

Licensure as a physician assistant by the Iowa Board of Physician Assistants.

For positions in this job classification in the Department of Public Health, specifically, applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify:
  1. Graduation from a recognized pathologists' assistant program.
  2. Licensure as a physician assistant and two years of full-time work experience in pathology.
