Job Description

Summary

This job is for a Physician Assistant at a correctional medical center in Iowa, where you'll conduct health checks on new inmates, manage ongoing conditions like diabetes and high blood pressure, and handle minor medical issues or referrals for tests and specialists.

  • Skills in assessing acute medical issues, ordering diagnostic tests (e.g., labs, x-rays), and performing minor procedures (e.g., suturing, foreign body removal)

Full Job Description

Review intake admissions and issue orders for individuals entering Iowa Medical and Classification Center.
Perform physical examinations for new intakes, as well as routine physicals of the general population scheduled per DOC policy.
Manage chronic health conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, COPD, and similar conditions in accordance with DOC policy.
Assess referrals from nursing and ancillary
Health Services staff for new or acute medical issues.
Individual patient encounters may involve referring to specialty medical services, ordering laboratory tests, requesting x-rays or other diagnostic studies, and performing minor procedures (e.g., simple suturing, foreign body removal, nail extraction) as necessary
