Job Description

Summary

This job involves working as a Physician Assistant in community health clinics across Riverside County, California, providing primary care, specialty services like OB/GYN and pediatrics, and treating patients from underserved communities.

The Riverside University Health System Community Health Clinics have Physician Assistant opportunities throughout Riverside County.
The Riverside University Health System is recruiting board certified Physician Assistants for the Community Health Centers (CHC) located throughout Riverside County. The CHCs are high-volume, outpatient clinics providing comprehensive, compassionate primary care and specialty services to underserved populations. Physician Assistants with the CHCs see patients of all ages and perform various procedures within their scope of work, including OB/GYN and Pediatrics. The CHCs are designated federally qualified health centers and many providers employed with the CHCs qualify for various federal, state, and local loan repayment programs. Regular and per diem opportunities are available. Regular, full-time openings are with the Indio Mobile Health team, Palm Springs CHC and Corona CHC. Per Diem opportunities are in the desert as well as the western region and have a two day per week minimum scheduling requirement.

Physician Assistants with two - three years of experience in primary care are preferred. Physician Assistants with a minimum of one year of experience in primary or urgent care settings will be considered, and new PAs with less than one year of experience are welcome to apply in the event staffing needs change in the future.

The schedule in most clinics is a 9/80 with every other Friday or Monday, weekends, and holidays off (depending on operational needs).

Requirements

• Take patient health histories; perform physical examinations; record findings and assess the health status of patients; identify abnormalities and/or concerns.
• Order, review and interpret diagnostic and screening procedures; perform selected diagnostic and therapeutic procedures; perform minor surgical procedures under supervision of a physician.
• Instruct and counsel patients and their families on matters pertaining to their physical and mental health; refer patients for further diagnosis and/or treatment when indicated.
• Identify patients who require immediate attention of a physician; initiate specified emergency treatment.
• Carry out approved treatment plans; assist the physician in providing services to patients requiring continuing care including the review and implementation of treatment and therapy plans.
• Assist in orienting less experienced physician assistants; collaborate with other physician assistants and physicians to review protocols for healthcare.
• Identify needs for continuing education for physician assistants, medical students, and resident physicians and make recommendations for meeting such needs.
• May present in-service training or staff development programs as designated by supervising physician.
• Participate in analysis of clinic concerns and work with other department staff to solve problems.
• Collaborate with other department staff to modify patient record-keeping requirements and forms; identify need for modification of standardized procedures for physician assistants and initiate collaboration with supervising physician to implement changes.
• Participate in community activities on health related issues.

Qualifications

Education:
Physician Assistant II - BS/MS degrees not required
Physician Assistant III - Bachelor's or Master's degree from an accredited college or university in physician assistant studies, public health, health sciences, or a closely related field.
Experience:
Physician Assistant II - one year of experience as a Physician Assistant
Physician Assistant III - three years of experience as a physician assistant, one year of which must have been with the County of Riverside or an equivalent hospital or health care setting.
Licenses/Certifications:
Possession and maintenance of a license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of California
Drug Enforcement Administration certificate (DEA)
Board Certification
