Full Job Description

In this position, you will perform a wide range of highly complex and novel patient care and research activities.

Assignments are characterized by health-related care and research efforts that are unique and unprecedented; involve a large volume of patients and many different protocols; are contracted with many different federal and community agencies; and projects that are managed simultaneously.

In order to qualify for a Physician Assistant, GS-0603-12/13 position, you must: have graduated from a physician assistant educational program, accredited by The Accreditation Review Committee on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or its predecessors, at a College, university, or educational institution that is accredited by an accrediting body or organization recognized by the U.S.

Department of Education; AND have successfully completed the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) examination; AND have maintained status as a certified physician assistant, including completion of all requirements for continuing medical education (CME) and re-certification; AND possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician Assistant from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

In addition to the above, in order to qualify at the GS-12 level, you must have 1 year of specialized experience as a certified physician assistant equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: 1.

Conducted physical assessments and examinations of patients and delivered appropriate treatment. 2.

Collaborated with physicians and research staff to coordinate patient care and ensure protocol adherence. 3. Collected and analyzed patient data to support reports and research findings.

In addition to the above, in order to qualify at the GS-13 level, you must have 1 year of specialized experience as a certified physician assistant equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: 1.

Conducted comprehensive physical assessments and examinations of patients with complex health conditions and delivered appropriate treatment.2.

Served as a specialty consultant to nursing services and other health disciplines on patient care and protocols. 3.

Managed and analyzed patient data and developed analytical reports to support program assessments.You will receive credit for all experience material to the position, including experience gained in religious, civic, welfare, service, and organizational activities, regardless of whether you received pay.

Perform a wide range of highly complex and novel patient care and research activities.

Perform such duties as: patient history and physical examinations; recording pertinent patient data; assessment of patients to determine the need for medical attention; review of patient records to determine health status; and the preparation of patient summaries.

Provide expert advice and assistance in the design and development of clinical and basic research studies on assigned health issues.

Assist in the examination and observation of patients by performing such duties as taking case histories, conducting physical examinations, and ordering laboratory studies during hospital rounds and clinic visits.

Assume full responsibility for, and coordinates the collection of, specimens needed for all studies on patients.

Participate in daily rounds and makes presentations at patient care conferences with a team consisting of staff physicians, members of the nursing staff, and other individuals involved in direct patient care.
