Summary

This job is for an experienced physical therapist who helps patients recover from injuries or illnesses by creating and carrying out treatment plans in a county health system, including hospitals and children's services.

It involves hands-on therapies like exercises, massages, and equipment training, while also guiding less experienced staff and educating patients on self-care.

Key Requirements

  • Valid license as a Physical Therapist from the Physical Therapy Board of California

Contra Costa County Health Services Department is recruiting individuals on a continuous basis to fill journey-level Physical Therapist positions. Therapists may be assigned to the Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and its Health Centers or the California Children Services Programs located throughout the County.

Physical Therapist II is a journey-level classification. Incumbents perform a full range of general therapy treatments while developing and learning the skills and knowledge necessary to apply more advanced and/or specialized treatments.

Requirements

Evaluates, plans and implements advanced or specialized therapy treatments in accordance with medical directionAdministers or supervises the administration of physical therapy treatments, including but not limited to the following areas:neuromuscular facilitation and reeducationassistive orthotic and prosthetic device fabrication fitting and trainingtemporary splinting and gait trainingbracing soft and bony tissue mobilizationmanual and mechanical tractionhydrotherapy, cryotherapy, thermal therapy and massagetratiscutaneous neuromscular and electrical stimulationProvides technical advice and assistance to less experienced therapistsMay assist in training them on the more specialized therapy treatmentsInstructs patients in pain management, injury prevention, posture correction and body mechanicsMonitors and facilitates patients' progressDevelops or directs development of special equipmentProvides and promotes excellent customer service for all internal and external customersExplains medical recommendations with respect to physical therapy, to patients and their familiesObserves patient reaction, keeps records and prepares required reportsAdministers diagnostic and prognostic testsProvides consultation and education relative to therapy treatment considerationsCollaborates with other care providers to ensure proper patient treatment and follow-upSecures and returns clinic supplies and equipment and maintains required records and statisticsPrepares reports of patient treatment, discharge planning and evaluation of treatment servicesProvides training and work direction to aides, assistants, interns and volunteersConsults with other therapists as needed Qualifications License Required: Possession and maintenance of a valid license as a Physical Therapist issued by the Physical Therapy Board of California.

Experience: Two years of full-time experience or its equivalent as a Physical Therapist.Certification: Must possess and maintain a current Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate issued by the American Heart Association or a CPR certification issued by the American Red Cross.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: A background investigation/fingerprint and/or physical exam may be required prior to the start of employment.Applicants must submit a copy of a valid License Physical Therapist issued by the Physical Therapy Board of California, a copy of a current Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate issued by the American Heart Association, or a CPR certification issued by the American Red Cross AND a completed supplemental questionnaire.

An application submitted without a valid License and supplemental questionnaire will be considered incomplete and will therefore be disqualified. Additional Information 1.
