Summary

This entry-level job involves helping patients recover from injuries or illnesses through hands-on physical therapy treatments, like exercises and massages, while working in county health centers or medical facilities.

Key Requirements

  • Skills in administering treatments such as neuromuscular reeducation, gait training, hydrotherapy, and electrical stimulation
  • Experience instructing patients on pain management, injury prevention, and body mechanics
  • Proficiency in monitoring patient progress, keeping records, and preparing reports
  • Capacity to collaborate with healthcare providers and provide training to assistants or volunteers

Contra Costa County Health Services Department is recruiting individuals on a continuous basis to fill entry-level Physical Therapist I positions. Therapists may be assigned to the Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and its Health Centers or the California Children Services (CCS) Programs located throughout the County.

Physical Therapist I is an entry-level classification requiring no experience. Incumbents in this classification perform a full range of general therapy treatments while developing and learning the skills and knowledge necessary to apply more advanced and/or specialized treatments.

Requirements

Evaluates and plans physical therapy treatments in accordance with medical directionAdministers or supervises the administration of physical therapy treatments including but not limited to the following areas:neuromuscular facilitation and reeducationassistive orthotic and prosthetic device fabrication fitting and trainingtemporary splinting and gait trainingbracing soft and bony tissue mobilizationmanual and mechanical tractionhydrotherapy, cryotherapy, thermal therapy and massagetranscutaneous neuromuscular and electrical stimulationInstructs patients in pain management, injury prevention, posture correction and body mechanicsMonitors and facilitates patients progressDevelops or directs development of special equipmentProvides and promotes excellent customer service for all internal and external customersExplains medical recommendations with respect to physical therapy to patients and their familiesObserves patient.

Continued employment under the latter requirement is dependent upon successfully passing the licensing examination that has been applied for.

Certification: Must possess and maintain a current Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate issued by the American Heart Association or a CPR certification issued by the American Red Cross.

Applicants must submit a copy of a valid License as a Physical Therapist issued by the Physical Therapy Board of California or proof of graduation from an approved school of physical therapy and acceptance of an application to take the State of California Physical Therapy Licensing Examination AND a completed supplemental questionnaire.

An application submitted without a valid License, or proof of graduation, etc. and supplemental questionnaire will be considered incomplete and will therefore be disqualified. Additional Information 1.
