Job Description

Summary

This job involves providing specialized physical therapy to incarcerated people in Iowa's correctional facilities, focusing on complex cases like injuries, chronic pain, and mobility issues, while also offering expert advice across the state on treatments and accommodations.

Key Requirements

  • Licensure as a Physical Therapist by the Iowa Board of Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy Examiners
  • At least 18 months of full-time experience as a physical therapist
  • Ability to perform advanced evaluations and treatments for complex conditions (orthopedic, neurologic, post-surgical, chronic pain, geriatric, trauma)
  • Skills in developing individualized treatment plans through assessment and interdisciplinary collaboration
  • Experience conducting functional capacity evaluations and risk assessments
  • Knowledge of assistive devices, orthotics/prosthetics, durable medical equipment (DME), and ADA accommodations
  • Ability to provide consultations and guidance on therapeutic modalities and safe-mobility techniques

Full Job Description

This position will focus on Advanced Clinical Practice & Statewide Evaluations-
  • Provides advanced physical therapy evaluation and treatment for incarcerated individuals as referred
    by medical providers, including those with complex orthopedic, neurologic, post-surgical, chronic
    pain, geriatric, or trauma-related conditions.
  • Performs statewide clinical consultations, providing expertise on complex mobility needs, assistive
    devices, orthotics/prosthetics, durable medical equipment (DME), ADA accommodations, and postsurgical
    rehabilitation protocols.
  • Develops individualized treatment plans based on advanced assessment, clinical records, specialist
    recommendations, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Conducts functional capacity evaluations and risk assessments for individuals requiring specialized
    housing, work restrictions, or safety accommodations.
  • Provides guidance to facility-level providers and nursing staff regarding advanced therapeutic
    modalities and safe-mobility techniques for high-risk patients.

Qualifications

Licensure as a Physical Therapist by the Iowa Board of Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy Examiners and experience equal to eighteen months of full-time employment as a physical therapist;
OR
licensure as a Physical Therapist by the Iowa Board of Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy Examiners plus any equivalent combination of graduate level coursework in physical therapy may be substituted for the required experience (on the basis that thirty semester hours equals one year of experience) up to a maximum substitution of one year.
