Job Description

Summary

This job involves analyzing satellite and aerial images to create accurate maps, measure distances and elevations, and produce geospatial products for intelligence purposes.

A good fit would be someone with a background in geography or related sciences who enjoys working with specialized software to turn raw imagery into usable data for national security.

It's ideal for detail-oriented professionals who can communicate findings clearly to teams and leaders.

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Cartography or related field with at least 30 semester hours in relevant sciences and mathematics, or equivalent combination of education and experience totaling 4 years
  • Experience communicating technical findings through written, visual, and spoken reports to leadership and stakeholders
  • Proficiency in geospatial analysis or photogrammetry software such as SOCET GXP, ArcGIS, QT Modeler, Active Earthscape, or ERDAS Imagine
  • Hands-on experience with precise imagery and elevation products like DPPDB, CIB, CI-Ortho, HRTE, TanDEM-X, GRiD, or DTED for measurements
  • Expertise in photogrammetry techniques including elevation extraction, triangulation, remote sensing, image science, orthorectification, and related geospatial skills like surveying, GIS, geodesy, and mapping
  • Stereopsis ability and near visual acuity of 20/60 or better (with or without corrective lenses)

Full Job Description

Photogrammetrists perform image assessment, point selection, mensuration, triangulation, orthorectification, dynamic range adjustments, and processing in order to produce image products.

They increase the relative and absolute positioning accuracy of imagery from sensors to support mono and stereo exploitation.

These analysts assess, evaluate, and extract elevation data from stereo imagery.

They p MANDATORY QUALIFICATION CRITERIA: For this particular job, applicants must meet all competencies reflected under the Mandatory Qualification Criteria to include education (if required).

Online resumes must demonstrate qualification by providing specific examples and associated results, in response to the announcement's mandatory criteria specified in this vacancy announcement: 1.

3.

Experience with precise imagery or elevation specific products and services such as, but not limited to, Digital Point Positioning Database (DPPDB), Controlled Image Base (CIB), Orthorectified Commercial Imagery (CI-Ortho), High Resolution Terrain Elevation (HRTE), TanDEM-X, GRiD, or Digital Terrain Elevation Data (DTED) to measure and determine precise and relative dimensions.

4.

Experience in photogrammetry (to include but limited to elevation, triangulation, remote-sensing, image science, and/or orthorectification) and/or related geospatial sciences core competencies (to include but not limited to surveying, GIS, geodesy and mapping) to perform precise imagery generation and quality control.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: A.

Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Cartography or a major that included, or was supplemented by, at least 30 semester (45 quarter) hours of coursework in Cartography and/or directly related Sciences and related Mathematics.

Coursework may include Astronomy, Cartography, Computer Science, Geodesy, Geography, Geology, Geophysics, Land Surveying, Photogrammetry, Physical and Geological Oceanography, Physical Geography, Remote Sensing, or a related discipline.

The 30 semester (45 quarter) hours must have included at least 6 semester (9 quarter), but not more than 15 (22 quarter), hours of college level non-business mathematics or statistics (i.e., college level algebra, trigonometry, calculus, or scientific mathematics or statistics requiring equivalent college-level courses as prerequisites).

NGA's civilian, military, and contract personnel evaluate imagery, maps, charts, multiple layers of foundation data - such as terrain, elevation, and gravity - and the full spectrum of visible and invisible light in order to help users visualize what is happening at a particular place and time.

Our intelligence officers go beyond describing "what, where, and when" to revealing "how and why" our work enables decision advantage for our policymakers, warfighter, intelligence professionals, and first responders.

NGA uses a flexible, high mobility career model.

Individuals are hired for their overall skills within a specialty such as Photogrammetrist and then placed in various positions throughout the agency once they complete the clearance process.

Although currently advertised as a non-supervisory, permanent, telework-ineligible job posting with occasional travel, it is unknown which specific positions will be available after applicants complete the selection and clearance process.

Because of this, aspects of the job such as travel, supervisory, telework, etc.
