Full Job Description

The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Division of State-Operated Specialty Care, Bureau of Woodward Resource Center (WRC) is seeking a full-time Pharmacy Technician to join our team!

What You'll Do

As a Pharmacy Technician, you'll play a vital role in assisting the pharmacist in providing pharmacy services to the individuals being served by WRC and information to other professionals at WRC.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for all cassette cycle filling processes. Retrieve medications from stock, affix labels, and fill cassettes to ensure timely readiness of medications. Reconcile returned cassettes and review for potential medication variance reporting.
  • Assist in double-checking medications that are to be dispensed to ensure the correct medications and dosages have been filled and the label contains accurate and complete information.
  • Provide front end back up: entering orders, answering the telephone, relaying messages, assisting/answering questions for nurses, preparing new orders and refills for pharmacist check, and basic compounding.
  • Maintain and organize pharmacy supplies and records, assist in ordering processes and conducting inventories of drugs and supplies.
  • Assist the pharmacist in providing pharmacy services to the Individuals being served by WRC and information to other professionals at WRC.


Key Competencies

  • Use knowledge of medications, their uses and effects, and medical terminology to comprehend prescription orders.
  • Perform packing, ordering, labeling, transcription, patient profile information, drug quality checks, computer database maintenance, and other nationally recognized expectations for pharmacy technicians at a high level of accuracy.
  • Transcribe orders for medications and master all areas of pharmacy software program including entering new physician orders.

Applicants will be required to complete a background check to be considered for this position.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:

1) One year of full-time technical work experience assisting a pharmacist with pharmaceutical tasks.

2) A total of one year of education and/or full-time experience (as described in number one), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university coursework in a pharmacy technician training program equals one year of full-time experience.

3) Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes two years of full-time work as a Pharmacy Assistant.

Additional Information
