*Subject to changeDESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSThe Houston Health Department is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to assist the pharmacist with preparing medication, distributing medication, and managing inventory.The duties and responsibilities are as follows: • Maintain medication inventory, restock shelves, and check for expired products
• Inventories and maintains proper levels of supplies at the central and clinic pharmacy level, while ensuring compliance with Texas state pharmacy regulations.
• Transcribes prescription information onto medication labels.
• Sorts and pre-packages drugs and pharmaceutical supplies for health center deliveries weekly
• Assist with report preparation and accurate medication tracking.
• Compiles, records, and maintains monthly reports and assists with audits
• Ensure proper medication management and proper documentation.
• Collaborate and participate in 340B training.
• Assist with preparing, dispensing, labeling, and tracking 340B medications.
WORKING CONDITIONSThe position requires stooping, bending and/or lifting of items of up to 30 pounds with occasional periods of walking on rough surfaces.
Requirements
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:Requires a high school diploma or GED certificate.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:Two years of clerical experience in a pharmacy, drug wholesale house, hospital pharmacy, or related work environment such as a nursing home are required.
A Pharmacy Technician certification may be substituted for the two years experience requirement. Pharmacy technicians assigned to the Jail Division must have a Pharmacy Technician certification as required by the Texas Pharmacy Act.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTS:None.

Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**Pharmacy Technician Certification.

SELECTION/SKILLS TESTS REQUIREDNone. However, the Department may administer a skills assessment test.

SALARY INFORMATION
GENERAL FUND POSITIONGrants & Special fund positions are dependent upon continued available funds. If funding is no longer available, employee may be laid off or transferred. Factors used in determining the salary offered include the candidate's qualifications as well as the pay rates of other employees in this classification.
