Summary

This job involves working as a pharmacy technician at a military base in Kansas, where you'll help fill prescriptions, manage drug inventories, and assist medical staff with medication questions in a busy clinic setting.

About the Position: This position is located at McConnell Air Force Base, Kansas. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation Non-Federal work experience may be creditable for leave purposes.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Basic Requirements for Pharmacy Technician (GS-06): Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes filling and distributing pharmaceuticals; maintaining accurate inventory of all controlled substances; and utilizing automated Pharmacy based computer systems.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

OR Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Pharmacology.

OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.

To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9.

Add the two percentages. Major Duties:

  • Review individual prescriptions for the full range of pharmaceuticals for dispensing.
  • Answer inquiries from doctors, nurses, and other medical staff on the availability of drugs in stock and dosage forms available in the pharmacy.
  • Process prescriptions by data entry and verifies prescription orders.
  • Prepare, package, and label prescriptions and drug orders as ordered by the pharmacist.
  • Conduct interviews with patients or caregivers to establish medication history.
  • Adhere to applicable laws and regulations on all controlled substances.
  • Prepare bulk compounds which includes weighing, measuring, and computing required quantities.
  • Work in intravenous additive solution area and performs sterile solution operations.
  • Check items received against requisitions to resolve discrepancies.
  • Perform clinic inspections and maintain work area and equipment.
