Job Description

Summary

About the Position: This position is located at Naval Medical Center with the Directorate of Clinical Support, Pharmacy Division in San Diego, California. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes preparing medications for dispensing; and utilizing pharmacy-based computer systems to process prescriptions and medication orders.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). Pharmacy Technician License is HIGHLY PREFERRED.

Major Duties:

  • Determine type of substance, strength, dosage, and quantity of medication prescription to be dispensed.
  • Package and label medications ensuring proper handling, storage, and accountability.
  • Assure the safe handling, preparation, storage, and disposal of various pharmaceutical drugs.
  • Process medication orders by using computerized order entry.
  • Review orders for compliance with regulatory processes.
  • Answer routine questions concerning proper use, dosage, administration, drug interaction, and side effects of medications.
  • Clarify questionable orders with ordering medical provider.
