Job Description

Summary

This job involves working as a pharmacist in military health facilities, where you'll help ensure patients get the right medications safely by checking prescriptions, creating personalized dosing plans, educating patients and doctors, and sometimes handling medication distribution.

It's a great fit for licensed pharmacists with at least one year of hands-on experience in clinical settings who enjoy solving complex medication issues and supporting patient care in a team environment.

Key Requirements

  • Doctoral degree in Pharmacy from an ACPE-accredited program (or exemption for current federal pharmacists in the 0660 series employed since September 27, 2017)
  • Current, active, valid, and unrestricted pharmacy license in a U.S. state, territory, or District of Columbia
  • Ability to distinguish basic colors
  • One year of professional pharmacy experience developing individualized medication regimens and ensuring proper doses
  • Experience coordinating clinical pharmacy services for complex, specialized problems

About the Position: Provides comprehensive clinical pharmacy support by ensuring safe and accurate medication use, developing individualized dosing, guiding medication evaluations, providing drug information and patient education, performing key clinical preparation tasks, and assisting with medication distribution when needed.

Basic Requirement for Pharmacist: Education: A doctoral degree in Pharmacy that is recognized by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S.

Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained Exemption: You are exempt from the basic requirement above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0660 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before.

Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status.

Licensure: A current, active, valid, and unrestricted license to practice pharmacy in a State, a territory of the United States, or the District of Columbia.

Medical Requirement: Must be able to distinguish basic colors.

Specialized Experience: One year of professional pharmacy experience which includes: Develop individualized medication regimens ensuring proper pharmaceutical doses are maintained, coordinate clinical Pharmacy services that includes complex problems of a highly specialized nature and communicate with patients to counsel them regarding their prescribed medication.

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify.

For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Major Duties:

  • Analyze medication for accuracy, incompatibilities, contraindications, and appropriate doses.
  • Develop individual dosing regimens based upon pharmacokinetics of drugs employed, disease states and medication history of the patient.
  • Assist medical staff in designing, coordinating and accomplishing an effective medication utilization evaluation (MUE) program to promote and sustain optimal therapeutic effectiveness and reduce waste.
  • Support and provide routine and complex drug information to patients, physicians, and other staff through literature analysis and research.
  • Provide drug education to patients on correct use of medications, potential side effects and unique medication packaging through verbal and written means.
  • Perform tasks related to clinical service, e.g., preparing discharge medications, bedside medication, medication labeling, and adjusting specific intravenous drug preparations.
  • When required, perform medication distribution functions to include filling, checking, counseling, and dispensing of outpatient prescriptions, preparation of intravenous admixture and filling, checking and dispensing of unit dose medications.
