Summary

This job is for an experienced pharmacist at a state psychiatric hospital in Colorado, where you'll handle medication dispensing, reviews, and support for patients with severe mental health issues.

About Fort Logan:The Colorado Mental Health Hospital in Fort Logan (CMHHIFL) is one of two state psychiatric hospitals serving Colorado residents with acute mental illnesses and/or court-ordered inpatient restoration treatment. Our vision is to provide exemplary inpatient psychiatric care to residents in Colorado with acute, serious and persistent mental health needs. CMHHIFL supports hope, health, and recovery through innovative, evidence-based, and individualized patient care. CMHHIFL provides inpatient treatment to adult patients, generally between the ages of 18- 59. The hospital currently has 94 civil adult inpatient beds and 44 forensic beds. Medical, rehabilitation services (physical, occupational, and speech therapy) and clinical programming are available to clients based on their treatment needs.

About this Work Unit:

This position works in the 24-hour State psychiatric hospital with individuals voluntarily and involuntarily committed to treatment.

Patients receiving treatment at CMHHIFL have severe and persistent mental illness and may have traumatic brain injury, trauma disorders, and other complex dynamics.

Each treatment team is multidisciplinary, including psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, addiction specialists, occupational therapists, recreation therapists, creative arts therapists, nurses, physicians, and mental health clinicians.

In addition, the hospital offers dietary, peer, and chaplain services.

Job Duties:
The Pharmacy provides pharmaceutical services to the patients at CMHHIFL. Pharmacist II performs a wide range of pharmaceutical operations, including:

  • Fill provider orders and perform drug utilization reviews for inpatient and outpatient
  • Researches discrepancies between the pharmacy medication profile and patient record
  • Determines correct information and makes adjustments as needed
  • Dispense medication for inpatient and outpatient utilization
  • Fill medication requisitions from nursing units and inpatient unit dose cassettes
  • Delivers medication to treatment teams and pickup medications to be returned to pharmacy
  • Completes associated paperwork and computer data entry
  • Clinical supervision of on-duty pharmacy technicians work by reviewing, signing, and approving all dispensing activities
  • Ensure the CMHHIFL pharmacy department complies with CMHHIFL policy, Federal, State, Joint Commission, and State Board of Pharmacy rules and regulations.
  • Must know and follow documentation requirements from the State Board of Pharmacy
  • Provide drug information to physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:
Current, valid licensure as a Pharmacist by the Colorado State Board of Pharmacy.

Two years of experience in an occupational field related to the work assigned as a Pharmacist.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in outpatient or inpatient settings
  • Experience with The Joint Commission standards for pharmacy and hospital
  • Experience working in a mental and behavioral health setting
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively within pharmacy and throughout the hospital
  • Strong work ethic, exceptional organization skills, and the ability to consistently meet work schedule
  • Previous state employee

Conditions of Employment:

The successful candidate in this position must be willing and available to submit to the following conditions:

  • Full background check.
  • Pre-employment tests may include a drug screen and a Tuberculosis (TB) test.
  • This candidate must be able to work any shift, and this classification is shift differential eligible.
  • Some pharmaceuticals require special handling and disposal per EPA regulations.
  • Due to the juvenile population served at the MHI facilities, incumbents of this position must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Former State employees who were disciplinarily terminated or resigned in lieu of termination must disclose the information on the application and explain why the prior termination or resignation should not disqualify the applicant from the current position.

    Absent extraordinary circumstances, prior disciplinary termination, or resignation in lieu of termination will disqualify the applicant from future State employment with CDHS.

Employment history is calculated on a full-time basis (40/hrs per week). Part-time employment is calculated on a prorated basis to determine qualifications.
