About the Position: Position is located at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, Director for Resource Management, Department of Human Resources.

This position is responsible for analyzing, planning, and tracking of personnel security data in support of the Personnel Security Program and Information Security Program.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: independently reviewing, submitting, and processing complex requests for background checks and investigations for individuals; utilizing a variety of automated security systems such as Office of Personnel Managements (OPM) Electronic Questionnaires for Investigations Processing (e-QIP) system, Secure Web Fingerprint Transmission (SWFT), and Defense Information System Security (DISS); enrolling staff into the Continuous Evaluation System (CES); and advising management on security issues such as suspension, withdrawal or revocation of clearance process.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify.

For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).

Major Duties:

  • Advise the Command Security Manager and Department Head, Human Resources Department and recommend proper courses of action to resolve complex security issues.
  • Conduct preliminary investigations on security violations involving the safeguarding of classified information and the possible compromise of that information.
  • Advise management on security issues such as suspension, withdrawal or revocation; and provide technical advice/training to agency/staff regarding security clearance/investigation processes.
  • Perform administrative functions as a Trusted Agent (TA) for Contractor Common Access Cards (CAC).
  • Utilize a variety of automated security systems such as Office of Personnel Managements (OPM) Electronic Questionnaires for Investigations Processing (e-QIP) and Defense Information System Security (DISS).
  • Support the National Security of WRNMMC through the Personnel Security Program. Track and report Personnel Security data in compliance with overarching authorities that regulate and govern employee administration.
  • Prepare reports of investigations which may serve as the basis for administrative action or criminal prosecution. Prepares formal requests for denial of security clearances for approval by a Central Adjudication Facility (CAF).
  • Review and prepare recommendations for preemployment and final suitability adjudication determinations and forwards (PSI) Personnel Security Information and cases containing adjudicative issues.
