This job involves helping people apply for building permits by reviewing their paperwork, answering questions about rules and fees, processing payments, and issuing permits in a busy city office.

The Planning & Development Department is seeking a positive, productive individual that enjoys providing stellar customer service to the community and can thrive in team environments.
The position is on the Building & Permit Services team and provides direct support to the public in the receipt and review of permit application packages, processing permit applications by obtaining needed information, issuing permits, processing payments, and supporting City of Eugene plan review teams.

Salary: Permit Technician 1: $27.46 - $34.21 hourly / $57,116.80 - $71,156.80 Annually; Permit Technician 2: $29.95 - $37.34 hourly / $62,296.00 - $77,677.20 Annually
The City of Eugene determines starting pay within the range based on relevant education and experience as provided by the applicant in their application materials. This process is consistent with the Oregon Equal Pay Act (OEPA).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Permit Technician I
Experience
Three years of progressively responsible administrative support experience related to building permit processing or construction including one year of customer service in a related technical field.
Post-secondary course work in geography, land use planning, geographic information systems, or related field preferred.
Permit Technician 2
Experience
Four years of technical support experience related to building permit processing, typically related to commercial construction, including three years of experience assisting customers at the counter accepting applications or equivalent technical work.
Post-secondary course work in geography, land use planning, geographic information systems, or related field preferred.
Training
High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
Background:
Must pass a background check.

Bilingual Pay Benefit
Per the AFSCME contract, the City shall pay an employee an additional 5% for a required intermediate or advanced level competency.
To qualify for bilingual pay, the employee must have demonstrated fluency in the required language and successfully pass a fluency examination administered by the City's Employee Resource Center division.
Eligibility List
This posting may also be used to establish an eligibility list of applicants for future vacancies. Candidates that are placed on the eligibility list will be notified via email which will include the duration of the list and how notification of call up will occur.
