Requirements

In this position, you will be responsible for preparing all district line painting equipment to ensure it is fully operational and ready for use. This preparation includes verifying that the supply truck is adequately stocked with materials for the day's tasks, calibrating the equipment, fueling machinery, and replenishing tanks with the necessary supplies both before and during operations. Additionally, you will need to check that all communication devices are functioning correctly to facilitate smooth operations.

During the painting operations, you will operate and monitor the equipment to guarantee that the correct paint millage is applied, along with the appropriate distribution of beads, while adhering to the specified line widths for various highway types. It is essential to keep a close watch on the line position, color, and type to ensure accurate application at designated locations. Quick reflexes are crucial in this role to prevent misplacement of markings that may arise from variations in vehicle operation.

The role may also involve training and certification to operate a range of heavy equipment, including but not limited to snow plows, backhoes, tractor mowers with extendable hydraulic attachments, bulldozers, graders, and various self-propelled machines such as road wideners, sweepers, and line painting machines. You may also be tasked with operating self-propelled pavement breakers, post drivers, and front loaders with a bucket capacity of three cubic yards or more, as well as other heavy machinery utilized in construction and maintenance activities.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Travel, overtime and shift work required. Work hours subject to change based on seasonal requirements and operational needs.
  • The personnel assigned to this role will have specific reporting requirements based on the time of year.

    From April through December, they will be engaged in the District Paint Crew Duties, specifically for District 9, operating out of the Buckstown Shed.

    As the seasons change, from December until the end of March, their responsibilities will shift to winter duties.

    During this period, they will be allocated to a winter stockpile within District 9, which may include locations in Bedford, Blair, Cambria, Fulton, Huntingdon, or Somerset County, provided they reside in one of these counties.

    If they do not live within a District 9 County, they will instead be directed to report to either a winter stockpile in Cambria or Somerset County.

  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Successful completion of the Transportation Equipment Operator Trainee Program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Graduation from a Commercial Driver's License Training School; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements:

  • Must possess a valid Pennsylvania Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License with the Air Brake Restriction (L) removed.
  • Must possess a valid Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.
  • All employees must obtain an active certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of heavy trucks and loaders, and two additional pieces of construction equipment, within the probationary period.
  • Employees may be required to obtain and maintain CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific pieces of equipment.
  • This position requires the operation of vehicles or equipment with a manual transmission.
  • This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.

Additional Requirement:

  • You must be willing to commute to Somerset County, Pennsylvania.
  • You must be willing to work unannounced overtime.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
