Job Description

Summary

This job involves operating equipment to paint road markings like lines, arrows, and crosswalks on county and city roads, while also helping with basic sign fabrication in the shop.

It requires hands-on work outdoors, following safety rules, and managing traffic during projects.

Key Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Two or more years of related work experience in pavement marking, signage, or equipment operation
  • Current and valid driver's license
  • Ability to operate and maintain pavement marking equipment, hand tools, power tools, and striping vehicles
  • Knowledge of traffic control standards from the Texas Department of Transportation and Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 and basic computer applications for sign design
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work independently or in a team, with physical capability to lift up to 25 lbs and perform outdoor tasks

Full Job Description

The Pavement Marking Technician will be responsible for assisting with the daily functions of Engineering Services including operating equipment and performing pavement marking activities on county and city roads. Assist Sign Shop with basic signage and decal fabrication activities. 

Requirements

  • Operates and maintains all equipment associated with pavement marking including striping vehicle truck, small hand tools and power tools, and other related equipment. Performs routine maintenance on equipment or trucks and reports needed repairs.
  • Performs application of road markings per blueprint or layout specifications including regulatory markings, center lines, crosswalks, turn arrows, stop bars, railroad crossings, curbs, and other pavement markings.
  • Prepares surfaces for application of pavement markings on roadways, parking lots, and other paved surfaces. Utilize proper safety precautions related to all work performed, including Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and other safety related equipment and procedures.
  • Directs and controls traffic around work sites utilizing proper traffic control per Texas Department of Transportation standards.
  • Complies with all codes and ordinances in the Manual for Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).
  • Assists Sign Shop with basic signage and decal fabrication activities as directed.
  • May process sign shop work orders for signage, vehicle graphics, and other orders as needed.
  • Operates and maintains paint machines, sign applicator, and printing and cutting machines for fabricating signs.
  • May transport equipment and supplies.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.


Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Excellent customer service and communication skills, both verbal and written. 
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Must be able to stay organized and know how to prioritize the workload. 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. 
  • Competency with computers and Microsoft Office 365 Suite. 
  • Advanced analytical skills. 


Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Two (2) or more full-time years of related work experience.
  • Must have a current and valid driver's license.


Preferred Requirements:

  • Preferred knowledge in computer applications for designing and laying out of signs operation.

Additional Information

While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent may be required to bend, hear, keyboard, sit, stand, talk, work alone and with others, and work overtime. Must be able to lift up to 25lbs.
