Job Description


The Part-time Recreation Leader will be assisting with the operations of the Outdoor Recreation team, including supervision of program participants, in a variety of areas while assisting the public.

Additionally, this position will be responsible for assisting with planning and implementing of the Outdoor Recreation programs, camps, activities and outdoor classes.

Additionally, the Part-time Recreation Leader staff is directly supervised by the full-time Outdoor Recreation Coordinator.

Must be able to work a variety of hours, Sunday-Saturday, holidays, daytime and evening scheduling.


Essential Duties


  • Overseeing day-to-day operations of facility
  • Assisting with program implementation and development
  • Collecting fees for admissions, complying with all cash handling procedures, and making sure appropriate paperwork is completed for programs
  • Assisting with designing programs for youth, adult, and family programs
  • Processing and managing class registrations, spreadsheets, and databases
  • Completing room reservations, providing site tours, participant check-ins, and communication before, during, and after events
  • Completing setting up and tear down tables, tear down of rooms, tables, chairs, exhibits, wedding rentals,
  • Dealing and interacting with the public
  • Monitoring and supervising all activities and participants in a variety of areas, including classes, camps, programs, daily rentals, and after-hours rentals
  • Overseeing volunteers, assisting special interest groups and special events
  • Documenting first aid accidents and all incidents, assisting in placing phone calls, flagging down medical personnel, and providing crowd control during an emergency
  • Supporting logistics for outdoor events, including site preparation, equipment setup, and volunteer coordination
  • Serving as back-up when the Outdoor Coordinator are unavailable
  • Supporting outreach efforts to increase community participation and awareness of Gwinnett Parks and recreation's green spaces
  • Performing all other duties as assigned

  • Must be available to work a variety of hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • This position will require a 50-pound lift test.


Hourly rate


  • $16.80 per hour

Minimum Qualifications


  • High School Diploma or GED, AND
    • An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above will also be considered
  • One year of experience in the related field
  • Valid driver's license
  • Experience in Parks and Recreation and customer service
  • Problem solving skills in interpersonal relations and oral and written communications, effective customer service techniques and instructing and supervising others
  • Skill in developing resources for program/service information
  • Ability to lift heavy objects up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to drive a 15-passenger van
  • Must have reliable transportation
  • Knowledge of Gwinnett County Park locations


Preferred Qualifications in addition to the above minimum qualifications


  • Experience in recreation programming, event planning, supervision, customer service, and scheduling experience
  • Proficient Microsoft Office experience
  • CPR/First Aid/Defibrillator Certification (must be attached to application) or must obtain within the first 3 months of employment (Gwinnett County will provide training opportunity)
