Summary

This part-time role supports a state fire safety program by handling tasks like organizing events, distributing resources, managing communications, and collecting data on fire incidents to help reduce risks in communities.

It involves both office work and occasional fieldwork, such as participating in safety events.

A good fit would be someone organized and communicative with experience in programs or education, who enjoys teamwork and can handle a flexible schedule of 15-29 hours per week.

Responsibilities

  • You will support the promotional, logistical, and operational activities of the Community Risk Reduction (CRR) section of the Office of State Fire Marshal.
  • You will assist with fire alarm technology distribution, mailings, resource application processing, event scheduling, and course delivery.
  • You will monitor incoming communications and respond and provide information, as appropriate.
  • You will support CRR by staffing, supporting, and participating in scheduled events and alarm blitz operations.
  • You will perform a variety of other duties to support CRR such as researching and documenting information related to fatal and other community-changing fires and performing follow-up activities with local fire departments, coroner’s offices and other groups for data collection purposes.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • A high school diploma and relevant program experience. A bachelor's degree may be substituted for the required program experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with the fire service, incident reporting and community risk reduction practices.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and communicate effectively with external stakeholders.
  • Experience in developing and delivering educational programs.
  • Ability to listen and conceptualize innovative ways to educate members of the fire service.
  • Ability to analyze, manage and resolve conflict within a database.
  • Knowledge of and experience with Microsoft Office products.
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a team to meet objectives.

Other Requirements

  • Must be able to work a flexible work schedule (15 to 29 hours per week)
  • Position functions primarily in an office environment with extended periods of sitting and standing.
  • Frequent data entry, telephone and computer use.
  • Occasional travel and routine work outside of the office alongside members of the Community Risk Reduction section.
