The Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department is actively seeking a Parks Reservation System Specialist.

This is paraprofessional work providing technical support for the parks reservation system databases and programs. Work requires knowledge of the techniques, methods, and procedures in the implementation and maintenance of the parks reservation system, as well as the use of specialized skills which are acquired through a combination of training and on the job experience. Contacts with others require skills in understanding and influencing people and are important in responding to and resolving complaints and system issues. Work is standardized in that tasks are covered by substantially diversified procedures and specialized standards and, because of changing priorities or differing situations, incumbents have the latitude to consider which of the many procedures or standards should be followed and in what sequence. Work involves differing situations requiring the use of judgment in search for solutions or new applications within ones’ known experiences. Operates standard office equipment such as personal computers. Work is performed in an office environment. The physical demands are moderate and consist of lifting items weighing less than 20 pounds. Work is performed under limited supervision where the work assignments are subject to established procedures, practices, precedents, methods, techniques and well-defined policies, and the worker plans and organizes the work, determines own priorities, and the work is reviewed, usually after the fact, in terms of quality, volume, timeliness, and adherence to established methods, standards, and policies.

Requirements

  • Maintains parks reservation system but installing software updates and implementing changes as required.
  • Maintains and updates the website as it relates to changing programs, park rentals, pavilion rentals and more.
  • Oversees and guides others in providing training and support to ensure consistent and compassionate service delivery with the community.
  • Develops and implements training programs for various division staff and leadership. 
  • Collaborates with other departments, as needed to facilitate a smooth transition with Vermont Systems throughout the department.
  • Maintains accurate records of all interactions, resources provided, and intake schedules.
  • Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of database programs and suggests improvements to better serve the community.
  • Website design, updates, and maintenance, testing.
  • Assists in the development and distribution of educational materials and resources related to specific projects.
  • Provides excellent customer service to community members, addressing their needs and concerns with empathy and professionalism.
  • Participates in community outreach events and activities to promote the resources and services of the department, if required.
  • Handles weekend rentals and bleachers and stage rentals.
  • Performs backup as needed for office of Director and Permitting.
  • Operates a motor vehicle.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in the City of Jacksonville’s competencies. 
  • Performs related work as required.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of computer hardware, software, and database systems.
  • Knowledge of HTML and SQL.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively through verbal and written communication. 
  • Ability to prepare and maintain records, data entry for reporting.
  • Ability to develop and conduct training to staff and the community, as required.
  • Ability to pay attention to details, organize and follow through on assigned tasks. 
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively using strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to remain patient and professional in dealing with customers and volunteers.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment such as personal computer using word, spreadsheet, database and other related software, two-way radio, and euthanasia equipment. 
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle.

Additional Information

OPEN REQUIREMENTS:
  • Two years of education and/or experience in Information Technology (HTML, SQL, Experience in VSI Project Technology or 1- 2 years’ experience with VSI Product ability to self-train with online VSI self-help system.
LICENSING/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION:
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license during employment in this class.
  • Must qualify for, obtain, and maintain a City of Jacksonville public driver certification for employment in this class.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
  • The probationary period for this class is six months.
