The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources is seeking to fill a permanent, full-time Park Maintenance Supervisor 1 position in Butler County.
This supervisory role oversees the maintenance and construction of facilities, utilities, and grounds at the Jennings Environmental Education Center, ensuring the site remains safe, functional, and welcoming for all visitors.

Requirements
This position is a working supervisor who collaborates closely with the Environmental Education Center (EEC) Manager to provide daily planning, supervision, and support for a high-quality maintenance program at the Jennings Environmental Education Center.
Responsibilities span all Center infrastructure, grounds, and resource management efforts, ensuring safe, functional, and well-maintained facilities that support both operations and educational programming.
Core responsibilities include:
- Overseeing maintenance of Center infrastructure such as offices, classrooms, restrooms, picnic areas, historic structures, water and sewage systems, parking lots, roads, trails, and bridges
- Managing grounds care including mowing, trimming, seeding, hazardous tree removal, and snow and ice removal
- Supporting resource management activities such as prairie management, invasive species control, habitat improvements, stream enhancements, tree planting, and abandoned mine drainage mitigation
Supervisory and operational duties include:
- Planning, scheduling, assigning, and reviewing work for salaried and seasonal maintenance staff
- Training employees and volunteers and ensuring safe, efficient work practices
- Coordinating with the EEC Manager and staff to schedule work that supports programs and minimizes disruptions
- Modeling professionalism, teamwork, adherence to regulations, and a strong commitment to public service
Additional responsibilities include:
- Ordering supplies and maintaining inventories of tools, equipment, fuel, and materials
- Preparing plans or diagrams for buildings, electrical improvements, landscaping, and related projects
- Assisting with special project planning, supervision, and evaluation
- Supporting water and wastewater system operations, monitoring, and repairs
- Reading and interpreting blueprints and shop drawings
- Performing hands-on work in carpentry, electrical, masonry, plumbing, mechanical, welding, roofing, and painting as needed
- Preparing required reports such as automotive records, fuel usage, and incident documentation
- Assisting with projects at nearby parks and collaborating with partner agencies and volunteer groups
- Recommending facility improvements, major maintenance needs, and equipment acquisitions

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work schedules will vary. Employees will work 5 days per week for a total of 37.5 hours, including a 30-minute lunch break. Shifts may include weekends, holidays, and any hours needed during weather events.

Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Four years of semi-skilled maintenance or construction experience in two of the following: electrical trades, plumbing trades carpentry trades, mechanical trades, water or wastewater treatment plant operations, or the operation of small and medium size construction or agricultural equipment; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirement:
- This position requires possession of an active motor vehicle license.
