Job Description

This vacancy is with the Department of Land & Natural Resources located at the Sand Island State Recreation Area.

Note: Employees appointed to temporary positions may also gain membership in the civil service upon satisfactory completion of an initial probation period of at least six months.

Once you become a member of the civil service, you become eligible to apply for promotion and transfer opportunities to permanent as well as other temporary positions.

Requirements

Performs a variety of manual and semi-skilled work tasks in the development and maintenance of scenic and recreational areas; greets visitors and gives historical and botanical information concerning the site; and performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements:

LEGAL AUTHORIZATION TO WORK:

The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.


Experience: TWO (2) YEARS of work experience in and one or a combination of the following: groundskeeping, grounds maintenance and/or related work utilizing a variety of hand tools and light motorized equipment; or unskilled or semi-skilled work requiring the use of simple tools found commonly in the building or mechanical trades.

Driver's License: Possession of a valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment.

Special Requirements: Some positions require the ability to lift and carry items of various weights with or without reasonable accommodation. The immediate vacancy has this requirement.
