Full Job Description

You will serve as a Paralegal Specialist in the Office of Judge Advocate General (OJAG) Naval Legal Services Command (NLSC) of RLSO SE JACKSONVILLE.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-09) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing the following duties: 1) Performing general office management and administration, including onboarding of new employees, scheduling / maintaining appointment calendars for attorneys, verification of data-entry into case management system, and overseeing the general training program for paralegals and legal support staff; 2) Preparing standard legal documents and routine correspondence; 3) Preparing and delivering information presentations or trainings regarding legal or administrative procedures; and 4) Applying relevant regulations, instructions and rules of professional responsibility to screen potential clients for eligibility of service and conflicts of interest as well as maintaining client confidentiality.

  • You will prepare client-specific correspondence, case summaries, briefs, memoranda of law, pleadings, motions or other legal materials requiring independent legal research and analysis.
  • You will prepare a wide variety of legal pleadings.
  • You will examine correspondence, case files, pleadings, or other legal documents.
  • You will interview clients/witnesses to obtain and verify information.
  • You will assist Legal Assistance Attorneys in conducting formal execution of all legal instruments.
  • You will answer routine procedural questions about benefits, procedures, legal issues, and processes.
  • You will provide initial, refresher, and ongoing on-the-job training on Legal Assistance laws and procedures, database input and management, correspondence, and customer service.
  • You will assist attorneys in training assigned military and civilian support staff in local law, court procedures, legal research, documentation preparation, case management and office procedures.
  • You will be responsible for general office management and administration.
  • You will be responsible for coordinating and directing daily activities of all assigned support personnel.
  • You will provide notarial service essential to administer oaths for affidavits and other legal documents.
