Positions will be filled at the GS-7 level with promotion potential to a GS-9.

Once eligibility and qualification requirements are met, you will be eligible for promotion at management discretion to the GS-9 without further competition.

The minimum salary for a GS-7 is $52,688 and the maximum is $68,496. The minimum salary for a GS-9 is $64,448 and the maximum is $83,787.

One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade (GS-5) within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required.

Specialized experience is defined as: Applying laws, regulations, or policies governing financial or pay practices to assist customers with legal process or financial questions; and Using automated systems to review or process transactions.

Time-in-Grade: Current or former federal employees who have held a GS position in the preceding 52 weeks, must meet the time in grade requirement.

Applicant must have served 52 weeks as a GS-5 or higher grade in Federal Service.

** The effective date of your SF-50 must reflect that you will meet the 52-week time in grade requirement within 30 days of the announcement closing.

** You may qualify for consideration if meeting time-in grade, specialized experience, education requirement, 90 days after competitive appointment requirement, and all other qualification requirements within 30 calendar days after the closing date of the announcement, unless otherwise indicated on the announcement.

Major Duties:

  • Receive and review various court orders to determine the sufficiency of the legal documentation submitted for consideration.
  • Analyze facts of individual case and research the laws to determine whether statutory requirements (i.e. service to process, exemption of pay, or other support provisions) have been met.
  • Provide advice/assistance to customers; make determinations of legal validity regarding all forms of garnishments, involuntary allotments, and bankruptcies and applications under Uniformed Services Former Spouses' Protection Act.
  • Conduct legal research regarding pay, garnishments, involuntary allotments, bankruptcies, or collections.
  • Duties will be developmental in nature when the position is filled below the full performance level.
