This paralegal role in the South Carolina Attorney General's Office involves supporting prosecutors in handling serious criminal cases, from initial intake and evidence organization to trial preparation and case closure, often traveling across the state to collaborate with law enforcement and courts.

Paralegals get to travel throughout the state and work with prosecutors and investigators to handle a variety of cases; everything from drug cases to murders, hit and runs to human trafficking.
You’ll have the opportunity to work with various law enforcement agencies, different defense bars, and clerks of court across the state.
On this team, you’ll be able to grow your litigation preparation skills and work alongside the prosecutors to assist in identifying and locating missing pieces of the evidence to preparing witnesses for trial.

Case Intake: Receives a case as it is assigned to the division and notifies the appropriate agencies of its assignment. Receives and uploads discovery, requesting any missing information.
Creates a defense copy of the material and redacts out the necessary information. Prepares discovery for defense attorneys and files reciprocal motions on behalf of the State.
Position may require overnight travel.Position may require employees to work evenings and weekends.Position may be required to travel and transport files.
Qualifications Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, policies, and organizational functions. Knowledge of all stages of litigation in a court case or administrative proceedings.
Knowledge of motions, discovery, litigation, documentation, court and administrative proceedings rules, procedures, and practices.
Ability to perform legal research in accordance with preliminary instructions as to methods or approach, source material available, and policy and precedent of the office.
