Full Job Description

You will serve as a PAINTING WORKER (FORKLIFT OPERATOR) in the PORT OPERATIONS, HARBOR SECURITY BOAT MAINTENANCE DIVISION of NAVAL STATION.

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job.

Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION 1) Masking and letter-stencil jobs; removing grease, scale, rust, dirt, and old paint from surfaces so that coating materials will adhere properly; 2) Applying fillers and base coats, 3) Assisting in moving platforms, brows and harbor support equipment using a 10-ton forklift in accordance with specific instructions.

Often the incumbent may need to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in awkward positions. Frequently lifts, carries and steps up materials and equipment that may weigh up to 50 lbs.

WORK CONDITIONS: Is required to work both inside and outside with dirt, spray and fumes frequently present. Sometimes prepares and coats surfaces outside in inclement weather.

Will be required to use protective devices, clothing or equipment while exposed to adverse environmental and hazardous work assignments.

Must be able to comply, on occasion, with emergent weekend work requirements. The incumbent may be assigned to work areas where certain potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present.

These agents may include, but are not limited to: fumes, dust, noise, heat, and industrial chemicals like fuels oils greases and solvents, etc.

Is exposed to the possibility of strains, cuts, bruises and broken bones due to work from ladders of various lengths.

Eligible DoD career or career conditional employees shall be granted statutory return rights to their former position for a period of 5 years if continuously employed in a foreign or non-foreign area provided by Executive Order 10895 and DoDI 1400.25, v 1230.

Employees that do not exercise their return rights within five years are no longer eligible for return rights and will be treated as a local hire.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Major Duties:
