This job involves painting and maintaining bridges, tunnels, and related structures for the City of Houston, including tasks like cleaning, repairing surfaces, and applying finishes to extend their lifespan and cut costs.
Workers review assignments, gather materials, and use tools to complete the work while keeping the area safe.
It's a good fit for someone with hands-on painting experience who is physically fit, detail-oriented, and comfortable working outdoors in demanding conditions.

Performs general painting, cleaning, restoration and refinishing techniques to reduce replacement costs and enhance the life of bridges, tunnels, equipment, furnishings and facilities.
Reviews and executes work orders and assignments. Identifies, prepares and obtains required materials, supplies and equipment to complete assignments.
Performs general painting, restoration and refinishing techniques, i.e., spray and brush painting, varnishing, priming, scraping ,floating and taping. Repairs damaged surfaces.
Mixes and blends paint to match colors .Uses a variety of hand and power tools. Maintains a safe and clean work area.
This position involves considerable physical exertion, such as climbing of ladders, lifting of heavy objects (up to 80 pounds) on a highly frequent basis and/or assuming awkward positions for long periods of time.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTSAbility to read, write, add, subtract and follow oral and/or basic written instructions as might normally be acquired through nine to eleven years of formal schooling.
No special knowledge of any subject area or technical field is required. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTSTwo years of experience as a painter are required.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATE REQUIREMENTS:
**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**
