Full Job Description

This is a non-merit, temporary position with the Iowa Department of Corrections.

Candidates must follow the instructions in the "To Apply" section.
Positions in this class are exempt from the screening and referral requirements of the Iowa Department of Administrative Services - Human Resources Enterprise


The Mount Pleasant Correctional Facility is looking to fill a temporary Optometrist to provide eye care services to Incarcerated Individuals. This position will work approximately 15 hours a week up to 780 hours in a fiscal year. The hourly wage for this position is $56.93-$151.96

Duties include

  • Examine, diagnose, treat, and manage vision and eye health by providing corrective lenses, medications and patient education.
  • Conducts comprehensive eye exams to assess vision sharpness and detect eye diseases such as glaucoma, cataracts, or retinal disorders
  • Prescribes correct lenses
  • Managing eye diseases or disorders including conditions caused by systemic diseases like diabetes or HIV
  • Prescribing medication for ocular conditions as permitted by state law.
  • Refer patients to ophthalmologists or other specialists at UIHC when advanced care is required.
  • Provides pre- and postoperative care for patients undergoing eye surgery at UIHC.

Requirements

Graduate from an accredited school of optometry and be licensed by the Iowa Board of Optometry.
