Job Description

Summary

This job is for an optometrist at a military hospital in Missouri, where you'll examine patients' eyes, diagnose vision problems and diseases, and provide treatments using advanced tools.

It's ideal for a licensed eye doctor with at least one year of hands-on experience or a completed residency, who enjoys working in a fast-paced clinic serving military families and handling both routine and urgent cases.

About the Position: General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri. A recruitment or relocation incentive may be authorized.

Basic Requirement for Optometrist (Clinical): Degree: A Doctor of Optometry degree from an educational program that is accredited by the Accreditation Council on Optometric Education (ACOE) at the time the degree was obtained.

Licensure: Applicants must have received a passing score on the National Board of Examiners in Optometry (NBEO) examinations and possess a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice optometry in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Experience: One year of specialized experience as an optometrist which includes examining and treating patients with visual disorders and/or diseases.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

OR Residency: One year completion of a residency program in an institution accredited for such training. Major Duties:

  • Examine, diagnose, manage and treat a full range of eye and visual problems and ocular diseases, to include the application of advanced instrumentation, optometric procedures and techniques.
  • Perform comprehensive and limited visual and ocular examination of all types of patients.
  • Manage and treat patients on a walk-in and emergency basis when contacted by the emergency room during business hours.
  • Diagnose conditions through the analysis of test results, medical and previous eye history, occupational needs and the effect of the environment on the eyes.
  • Complete all patient encounters within 72 hours of the patient visit using MEDCOM electronic medical record.
