Summary

This role involves working as a paralegal in the Child Support Division of the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office, where you'll help parents over the phone with questions about child support cases, update records in the computer system, and ensure fair outcomes without taking sides.

It's a customer service-focused position that supports families by providing information and directing calls as needed.

  • Prior experience in child support is a plus

The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office, led by Prosecutor Ryan Mears, is setting new expectations in the criminal justice system, and is committed to a fair and equitable system. The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office Child Support Division works to encourage non-custodial parents to take financial responsibility for the benefit of their children. A wide range of services are available for families, including paternity establishment, locating non-custodial parents, and modification and enforcement of child support orders. The Prosecutor’s Office does not represent either party in a child support case or favor one side over the other. Our goal is to seek a just and fair outcome. The Operation Unit Paralegals assigned to the Solution Center assist callers to the Prosecutor’s Office with their questions and concerns reflective of the office having a fair and equitable system. The Prosecutor’s Office seeks employees who are dedicated to public service, public safety, and fairness and justice for all who come into contact with the child support system.

Requirements

Answer multi – line telephone, assist parents by phone in a manner consistent with the office policies as well as Local, State and Federal Laws and regulations. o Enter and update information in the computer system. o Trigger Income Withholding notices and mail general correspondence when necessary. o Provide general status updates to callers. o Make notes in the computer system. o Address caller’s questions and concerns as thoroughly as possible without having the hard copy file. o Direct phone calls to other staff when necessary o Must be able to meet daily, weekly, and monthly goals o Must always be courteous with callers Contribute to the effective and efficient daily operations of the Child Support Division through increased knowledge of paternity and child support issues. o Participate in in-service training events. o Abide by all policies and procedures set forth by the Marion County Prosecutor’s office. o Maintain confidentiality of all cases. o Abide by all policies and procedures set forth in the Marion County Prosecutor Office’s Personnel Policies and Procedures Manual. o Ensure that all work is completed in compliance of all applicable local, state, federal laws and IRS regulations. o Be punctual and adhere to attendance policies. o Maintain a highly professional attitude and meet the section deadlines. Qualifications

• Excellent oral and written communication skills. Must work well with the public and maintain a proper public image. • Ability to work with a diverse group of people. • Must manage time well, work efficiently and set appropriate priorities on work to be undertaken. Ability to work quickly and accurately under time and situational pressures. Must have organizational skills and have initiative to foresee the daily needs of the section. • Ability to work independently. Must be dependable and responsible. • Excellent attendance record. • College degree preferred, High School Diploma or equivalent required. • Demonstrated leadership ability in present and past positions; demonstrated ability to maintain sound and effective relationships with peers. • Prior experience in Child Support, a plus. • Applicant must be a Marion County Resident at time of hire or willing to relocate to Marion County within 6 months of accepting the position.
