About the Position: This position oversees and monitors all administrative activities for the Design Branch of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Seattle District, Engineering Division.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience performing administrative functions of an office, to include one or more of the following: training, timekeeping and/or travel.

Must also have experience utilizing automated office software to prepare correspondence; and editing or screening documents for proper grammar, spelling, capitalization, punctuation and terminology commonly used in office settings.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify.

For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05).

Major Duties:

  • Use automation systems to create, maintain and retrieve data, files and records management.
  • Act as a troubleshooter in solving controversial non-technical problems.
  • Create requests for personnel actions, payroll corrections, training, distribute correspondence and mail, overtime requests, etc.
  • Prepare correspondence in final form; ensure proper format, grammar and punctuation and independently correct when necessary.
  • Compile and format a variety of narrative and tabular material for reports and briefings using software programs (MS Office).
  • Primary timekeeper, to include entering data in an automated financial management system and providing guidance to management and staff on current timekeeping, leave, labor policies, and regulations.
  • Prepare travel orders for employees, coordinate air travel and hotel reservations with the travel office as necessary and ensure timely receipt of orders and tickets by employees.
