Full Job Description

Under general supervision of the Principal or designated supervisor, the Substitute Teacher is responsible for ensuring the continuation of learning in the absence of the regular classroom teacher.

Background Screening Requirement:
 Florida law requires all school personnel to undergo a Level 2 background screening through the Florida Department of Education’s Background Screening Clearinghouse. In accordance with House Bill 531, employment is contingent upon an applicant’s eligibility for clearance and the successful completion of all required background screenings prior to hire.

Requirements

Since every duty associated with this position may not be described herein, employees may be required to perform duties not specifically spelled out but may be considered incidental in the performance of this job. 
  • Reports to the principal or designee upon arrival to the school and reviews written expectations set by the school.
  • Maintains student behavior in class by supporting school policies governing student conduct and promoting positive behavior and a respectful, well-managed classroom.
  • Maintains the established routines and ensures a classroom environment that is safe, inclusive, and conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students, fostering a culture of curiosity, participation, and mutual respect.
  • Delivers instruction based on the lesson plan provided utilizing a variety of instructional methods, materials, and resources appropriate for meeting student needs and learning objectives.
  • Consults with the principal or designee for approval prior to initiating any procedures not specified in the lesson plans provided and substitute teacher's handbook.
  • Reports to Principal or designee at the end of the day to verify whether or not attendance is required on the following teaching day.
  • Adheres to the Code of Ethics of the Education Profession in Florida and complies with all school and Charter School Authority policy requirements to which regular teachers are subject and which good practice dictates.
  • Promotes a culture of high performance and continuous improvement by modeling a commitment to excellence and lifelong learning.
  • Assists with school-related activities outside the classroom, including field trips, fundraisers, before and after school duties, and lunch or hall monitoring as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications

Alternatives to the minimum qualifications can be made by the Board as they find appropriate and acceptable.
Education:
  • Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university.
Experience:
  • Educational background preferred.
Licenses and Certifications:
  • Valid Florida teaching certificate preferred.

Additional Information

  • Skilled in oral communications for effective expression and clarity.
  • Some knowledge of report and record keeping principles and techniques and experience with industry-standard computer applications.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective-working relationships with supervisors, support staff, and others.
  • Ability to organize and review work for efficient results and accuracy.
