This job involves helping low-income women, infants, and children through the WIC program by assessing diets, providing counseling on nutrition and breastfeeding, and connecting families to resources in clinic, hospital, and mobile settings.
A good fit would be someone passionate about public health who enjoys working directly with diverse families to promote better eating habits and child development.
The role requires strong communication skills and the ability to stay updated on health programs while participating in community events.
Provides diet assessment, nutrition counseling, and evaluation in clinic, hospital, and mobile settings.Documents participant records.Provides nutrition case management for high risk codes.Keeps abreast of WIC Program changes.Develops education materials.Participates in Health Fairs.Develops and continuously updates the resource information file.Serves as lactation advocate for breastfeeding promotion.Makes referrals to MPHD services and outside agencies; between the WIC program.Maintains referral list of local resources for participants.Performs related duties as required.
Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition from an accredited college or university and one (1) year of nutrition related experience.
Valid class “D” driver’s license, use of personal vehicle, and maintenance of valid personal vehicle insurance as required by Tennessee Law.
Additional Information Degree in Home Economics or Human Ecology, with an emphasis on nutrition and at least one (1) year of experience in Nutrition Services, Public Health or Extension Services and at least nine (9) quarter hours or six (6) semester hours in human nutrition, four (4) quarter hours or semester hours in human anatomy or physiology, and four (4) quarter hours or semester hours in education, psychology or counseling.Bilingual skills a plus, but not required
