This role involves leading and organizing nursing teams during assigned shifts at a county hospital, ensuring enough staff to care for patients and stepping in for managers when they're not there.
It includes scheduling nurses, checking on patient care, and explaining hospital rules to everyone involved.

Supervises and coordinates hospital nursing activities on an assigned shiftServes as a clinical resource for patient care needsActs as resource person in the absence of administrationParticipates in special projects/assignments and quality improvement activitiesRepresents nursing administration on evening, night and weekend shifts in the absence of the Director of Inpatient Nursing OperationsRecommends policies and procedures to improve nursing servicesImplements nursing administrative policies, procedures and standards for nursing staffSchedules relief nursing coverage for all units and for all shiftsAs needed, initiates disaster procedures in the absence of hospital administrationEnsures adherence to State regulations and Joint Committee on Accreditation of Hospital regulationsArranges for call-ins of ancillary staff as necessaryMakes rounds to oversee nursing careInterprets hospital policies and procedures to staff, patients and visitorsProvides and promotes excellence in customer service for both internal and external customers Qualifications License and Certification Required: Candidates must possess and maintain throughout the duration of employment: a current, valid and unrestricted Registered Nurse license issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing; AND a valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or CPR certification issued by the American Red Cross (Healthcare Provider); AND Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).Education: Possession of a Bachelor's degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university.Experience: Three (3) years of full time, or its equivalent, experience as a Registered Nurse in an acute care hospital, one (1) year of which was in the capacity of a Charge Nurse or Head Nurse or other supervisory/leadership role.Substitution: Two (2) additional years of experience as a Charge Nurse or Head Nurse may be substituted for the Bachelor's degree.OTHER REQUIREMENTS: A background investigation/fingerprint and/or physical examination may be required prior to the start of employment.PLEASE NOTE: ALL APPLICANTS MUST SUBMIT A COPY OF THEIR BASIC LIFE SUPPORT OR CPR CERTIFICATION AND ADVANCED CARDIAC LIFE SUPPORT CERTIFICATIONS AT TIME OF APPLICATION AND INCLUDE THEIR REGISTERED NURSE LICENSE NUMBER IN THE 'CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES' SECTION OF THE APPLICATION.

The training and experience questionnaire is designed to measure candidate’s relevant education, training, and/or experience as it relates to the Nursing Shift Coordinator classification.
