Summary

This job is for a clerical support role in a nursing department at a veterans' center, where you'll handle tasks like organizing patient files, typing documents, answering calls, taking meeting notes, and managing office supplies to support care for veterans.

The position is full-time, on-site in Scranton, PA, and open only to current employees at the Gino J. Merli Veterans Center.

Key Requirements

  • Six months as a Clerical Assistant 1 or equivalent, or high school graduation, or equivalent experience and training
  • Two or more years of experience with Microsoft Office software for creating spreadsheets, calendars, documents, and rosters
  • Proficiency in using office equipment including scanners, printers, fax machines, computers, tablets, and telephones
  • Strong organizational skills for updating and storing nursing files accurately and accessibly
  • Ability to perform general clerical duties such as typing reports, handling emails and calls, and taking meeting minutes
  • Experience monitoring and reordering office supplies to maintain stock levels
  • Detail-oriented with a positive attitude and ability to work well with others in a team setting

The Department of Military & Veterans Affairs is searching for an independent, responsible candidate to fill our Nursing Clerk 2 position at the Gino J. Merli Veterans Center located in Scranton, PA. If you are detail oriented, possess a positive attitude, and have the ability to work well with others, this may be the position for you! In this position, you will work with clinical services and clinical services management to organize and provide high quality services to our Veteran population.

Requirements

Responsibilities of this position include updating and storing nursing files to ensure they are accurate and accessible for other employees and management. General clerical duties including typing reports, letters and other documents related to the nursing department, as well as answering telephone calls and emails and redirecting them as appropriate. Participates in the meetings, taking dictations and minutes as requested. Checks for updates on new regulatory guidance update library of regulations as needed for ease of access and files reimbursement documents for nursing department staff. Additionally, you will monitor office supplies by identifying and maintaining par levels, reordering when stock levels are low.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week.
  • Work hours are 8:00am to 4:00pm, Monday-Friday, with a 30-minute lunch..
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $36,108 (before taxes).

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • Six months as a Clerical Assistant 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Graduation from high school; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Additional Requirements:
  • Two (2) years or more of experience with software applications within the Microsoft package and other software packages to create and maintain spreadsheets, calendars, documents and rosters.
  • Ability to work with various office equipment such as: scanner, printer, fax machine, computer, tablet, telephone, personal communication devices etc.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):
  • Previous experience working in an office setting as a clerk or personal assistant.

Legal Requirements:
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
    • Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.
  • A conditional offer of employment may require satisfactory completion of a medical examination.
