The Riverside University Health System's (RUHS) - Medical Center seeks a Nursing Assistant Regular - Full Time to join our team in Moreno Valley to support the Med #2 (4A) Division.

Under supervision, assists professional nursing personnel or other professional healthcare providers in providing basic patient care and treatment; observes patients via video monitoring equipment from a remote location; performs nonprofessional nursing duties in the care of physically and mentally ill patients; performs other related duties as required. The Nursing Assistant is an entry level classification and typically reports to appropriate supervisory or management level nursing staff. Incumbents may be assigned to any outpatient clinic or inpatient nursing unit across the Riverside University Health System (RUHS) or within the Department of Public Health.

The most competitive candidates will have at least one year of experience as a Nursing Assistant and hold a current Nursing Assistant certification. Spanish bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply.
The ideal candidate demonstrates strong multitasking skills, excellent situational awareness, and effective time management. They communicate clearly and concisely, maintain a professional demeanor, and remain calm under pressure in fast-paced environments. A team-first mindset, adaptability, and a strong commitment to patient safety and Zero Harm principles are essential for success in this role.

Examples of Essential Duties (may include but not limited to):
Provides direct patient care support by obtaining and documenting vital signs, intake/output, and daily weights; assisting with ambulation, repositioning, and safe patient handling per care plan; and maintaining continuous rounding and safety precautions. Monitors patients closely, promptly reporting abnormal findings or condition changes to the RN, and supports sitter/telesitter and safety monitoring workflows. Ensures compliance with infection prevention, hand hygiene, PPE, and zero-harm initiatives (Falls, CAUTI, CLABSI, HAI). Maintains clean, organized patient areas and equipment, participates in bedside shift reports, communicates respectfully using AIDET principles, responds promptly to call lights, and collaborates effectively with the interdisciplinary team. Accurately documents care in real time in the electronic health record while prioritizing multiple patients in a fast-paced environment.

Schedule: Day Shift: 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM (6-12hrs shift and 1-8hr shift every other week).

- Must be flexible to work any shift including weekends and holidays.
- Work schedule and/or Shift Times subject to change upon operational needs.


Salary Range: $20.70 - $27.59 Hourly.
Nursing Assistant Differentials:
- Evening Shift Diff (3p - 11:30p): $.60 for the time actually worked between the hours
- Night Shift Diff (11:00p - 7:30a): $1.20 for the time actually worked between the hours

Requirements

• Provide basic bedside nursing care to assure comfort and cleanliness of patients; take and record temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure; bathe, shave, feed, and dress patients and assist those capable of self-care.

• Collect, test and record results of routine specimen examinations; provide patients with bedpans, remove and clean them, and record intake and output of patients.

• May assist in the administration of such treatments as suctions, soaks and enemas; give and empty sitz baths; assist doctors or professional healthcare providers with IV's, pelvic exams, spinal taps, or other medical procedures.

• Assist patients in getting into and out of bed and wheelchairs; lift or assist in lifting, restraining and positioning patients; may set up fracture equipment and assist doctors in applying casts and braces.

• Clean and sterilize instruments, dressings, supplies, and utensils; transport patients to and from units.

• Maintain renal dialysis equipment; prepare and transport bodies to morgue; may clean restrooms; set up oral hygiene trays.

• Observe and report unusual behavior of patients through Unit chain of command; may accompany and attend mental patients in therapy sessions, court appearances or daily living routines, including social and recreational activities.

• May provide patient transportation in the absence of Medical Transportation Technician; assist in admission and discharge of patients from unit; go on ambulance runs as necessary.

• Monitor patients using AvaSys Telesitter Solution software and monitoring equipment.

• Verbally redirect patients via a 2-way radio from engaging in at risk behaviors; summon nursing staff if a patient requires assistance, nonresponsive to verbal commands, or can no longer be viewed on the video monitor.

Qualifications

Education: Successful completion of the education required by the State of California to obtain the necessary valid certifications.

License/Certifications (Must possess one of the following):
  1. Valid Nursing Assistant Certification (CNA) issued by the State of California
  2. Valid Paramedic license issued by the California Emergency Medical Services Authority
  3. Valid Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification approved by the State of California

Knowledge of: The principles, methods and techniques of basic patient care and safety; patient vital signs and basic medical terminology; video monitoring equipment and software; safe patient handling techniques, including lifting, positioning and transfer methods.

Ability to: Read, write and speak the English language; learn the principles, methods and procedures of basic patient care; learn hospital routines and techniques; monitor and alert nursing staff when a patient becomes a danger to themselves; perform bedside nursing care in an understanding and sympathetic manner; communicate effectively with patients using a microphone and headset; follow oral and written directions; use a computer, 2-way radio, mobile phone, and video monitoring equipment; maintain simple records; apply proper body mechanics in lifting and moving patients.

Other Requirements
Possession of a valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate issued by the American Heart Association is required.

Current CNA Certification, Paramedic License or EMT Certification must be maintained throughout employment.

Pre-Employment
All employment offers are contingent upon successful completion of both a pre-employment physical exam, including a drug/alcohol test, and a criminal background investigation, which involves fingerprinting. (A felony or misdemeanor conviction may disqualify the applicant from County employment.)
Probationary Period
As an Approved Local Merit System, all County of Riverside employees, except those serving "At Will," are subject to the probationary period provisions as specified in the applicable Memorandum of Understanding, County Resolution, or Salary Ordinance. Temporary and Per Diem employees serve at the pleasure of the agency/department head.
