About the Position: Serve as a nursing primary technical expert and educational consultant for the Practical Nurse Course (PNC) 68C Program for the U.S.

Army Medical Center of Excellence, located in Fort Sam Houston, Texas. ***This position is NOT entitled to Title 38 Premium Pay. This position is not in a clinical setting and not seeing patients.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that demonstrates a practical knowledge of the subject area of the position and of the methods and techniques of instruction, which includes developing revisioning, implementing, and evaluating Practical Nurse Course Program of Instruction (POI) curriculum in accordance with policies and guidelines.

Experience with advanced education, extensive clinical knowledge and skills of education programs, curriculum development, implementation and evaluation.

Researching principles and practices, to include formulating, collecting, organizing, adapting, recording and communicating data relevant to educational needs of Practical Nurse Course (PNC) students.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

OR Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree with a major study in education or a subject area related to the position to be filled, such as, Teaching, Education Studies, and Instructional Design.

OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.

To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12.

Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).

Major Duties:

  • Assists the PNC Branch Director in development of the 52-week Practical Nurse Course Program of Instruction (POI) (curriculum).
  • Evaluates existing curriculum to ensure the most updated information is included.
  • Recommends approval of substitution of materials to improve content presentation.
  • Submits request for procurement of education supplies or equipment.
  • Reviews instructional materials (i.e., lesson plans, student handouts, practical exercises, power point presentations, etc.) of novice instructors assigned to the department.
