Job Description

Summary

This job is for a nurse working in an outpatient clinic at a military hospital in Kansas, where you'll handle patient assessments over the phone or in person, help doctors with exams, and teach patients and staff about health care.

It's ideal for experienced nurses who enjoy working with diverse teams to coordinate care for everyday medical needs.

A good fit would be someone comfortable in a fast-paced military setting with strong patient interaction skills.

Key Requirements

  • Current, active, full, and unrestricted professional nursing license, including passing the National Council Licensure Examination
  • Degree (bachelor's, associate, diploma, or higher) from an accredited nursing program, with transcripts required
  • At least one year of professional nursing experience equivalent to GS-9 level, including care for ambulatory patients, medication administration, and patient/staff education
  • For foreign nursing graduates: Completion of Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS) Certification Program
  • Ability to perform independent telephone and clinical triaging, care coordination, and assist with examinations and procedures
  • U.S. citizenship required
  • Exemption from some requirements if currently employed in federal 0610 nursing series since September 27, 2017 or earlier, with documentation

About the Position: This position is located at Irwin Army Community Hospital in Fort Riley, Kansas. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation A recruitment or relocation incentive may be authorized.

Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service. Non-Federal work experience may be creditable for leave purposes.

Basic Requirement for Nurse (Clinical/Ambulatory): Degree: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required.

This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S.

Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.).

Licensure: A current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States; and you must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination.

Foreign Degree: Graduates of foreign nursing schools must have completed the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools Certification Program.

The certification program consists of a credentials evaluation, the CGFNS Qualifying Exam, and evidence of passing one of the approved English Language Proficiency examinations.

A copy of the CGFNS Certificate is required.

Exemption: You are exempt from the basic requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0610 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before.

Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Education/Experience: A diploma, associate degree, or bachelor's degree in Nursing from a professional nursing program and possession of at least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-9 grade level or above) which includes providing nursing care to ambulatory patients, administering medications and providing education to patients or nursing staff.

OR Education: A PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field.

Exemption: You are exempt from the qualification requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0610 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before.

Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status. Major Duties:

  • Perform independent, comprehensive telephone and clinical triaging, and facilitates care coordination through a multidisciplinary approach.
  • Assist health care providers with examinations and procedures.
  • Assist clinic with patient and staff education including clinic orientation.
  • Ensure staff compliance with maintenance of competency folders in accordance with hospital and Joint Commission standards.
  • Prepare and administer oral, subcutaneous, intra-muscular and intravenous medications.
