Requirements

In this position, you will provide non-professional nursing care to the residents at Southwestern Veterans’ Center.

This will involve contributing to plans of care by actively participating in interdisciplinary team meetings to discuss treatment plans.

You will assist patients in performing activities of daily living, as well as make rounds throughout your shift.

Your duties will include distributing meal trays, applying safety devices, applying medications, and reporting data such as vital signs.

You can expect to transport and escort patients and collect specimens as needed such as urine, feces, or sputum.

Additionally, you will record all services performed for residents and maintain a safe environment in residents’ room by addressing hazards with the Nursing Supervisor.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
  • Work hours will be determined from the following shifts, with a 30-minute lunch. You will work rotating days and weekends, with every other weekend off.
    • 1st shift: 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM
    • 2nd shift: 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM
    • 3rd shift: 10:00 PM to 6:30 AM
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.
  • DMVA is pleased to announce the launch of a Nursing Referral Program, promoting the hiring and retention of nursing staff at Pennsylvania’s veterans homes. Under this program, both referring employees and referred candidates may be eligible for payments of up to $4,000.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Active registration as a Nurse Aide in the Pennsylvania Nurse Aide Registry; or
  • Six months of paid experience in the care and treatment of geriatric or physically ill patients or residents.
  • This position is assigned to a long-term or specialized care facility and requires active registration as a Nurse Aide in the Pennsylvania Nurse Aide Registry.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Previous long term care experience

Legal Requirements:

  • A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
    • Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.
