The technicians will work as part of the Natural Resources Management team to improve natural resources.
Camp Williams is located approximately 15 miles south of Salt Lake City on the border of Utah and Salt Lake counties.

- Survey and Inventory: Walk designated parts of Camp Williams to conduct plant surveys, recording findings of state-listed noxious or invasive weeds using data collection and GIS procedures.
- Data Management: Analyze, summarize, and review field data using ESRI software (ArcGIS) and Microsoft Excel; report findings and store spatial data appropriately.
- Treatment Application: Calculate and prepare herbicide solutions at accurate rates; treat targeted weeds using sprayers or physical removal techniques as appropriate.
- Technical Reporting: Assist in the preparation of weekly reports and draft technical materials for environmental planning assessments in cooperation with military missions.
- Field Navigation: Use maps, compasses, and GPS equipment to navigate steep, rugged, and densely vegetated terrain.
- Safety Compliance: Understand and follow all safety procedures, including specific protocols for working on an active military training range with potential hazards like unexploded ordnance.
The Ideal CandidateThe ideal candidate for this position has the following:
- Education and Knowledge: Possess (or be working toward) a degree in biological sciences, natural resource management, botany, or a related field. Must be able to identify Utah noxious/invasive weeds and distinguish them from native or naturalized plants.
- Licensing: Must have a current state driver’s license and either possess or obtain a Utah Certified Pesticide Applicator’s License within four weeks of employment.
- Physical Stamina: Capable of sustained, strenuous physical activity, including hiking cross-country in steep, rocky terrain and hot, dry conditions while carrying up to 40 lbs of equipment.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word/Excel) and experienced in using GPS/GIS equipment to map and process spatial data.
- Vehicle Operation: Comfortable driving and maintaining off-road vehicles (ATVs and UTVs) on unmaintained dirt roads; must complete required safety training.
- Adaptability: Self-motivated and able to work both independently and as part of a close-knit two-person team in adverse weather or isolated conditions.
- Professionalism: Able to communicate information clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing, while showing tact and professionalism when dealing with others.
Preference will be given to candidates with a current Utah applicator's license, familiarity with Utah state-listed noxious weeds, and field experience with GPS, mapping, and off-trail navigation skills.
