This job involves driving trucks to deliver clean linens and pick up soiled ones between VA medical facilities in the Phoenix area, while following strict cleanliness rules to prevent infections.
It's a hands-on role with lots of lifting, loading, and operating vehicles in various weather conditions.

The Motor Vehicle Operator is located in the Environmental Management Services of the Phoenix VA Health Care System (PVAHCS).
Works in the laundry unit and strictly observes infection control practices, including separation of clean and soiled areas.
Responsible for distributing linen orders onsite and to offsite facilities: Prescott VA Medical Center, Phoenix VA CBOCs, and possibly outer buildings of the Phoenix Medical Center.

Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.
SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire.
Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week.
Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Work requires good coordination and good physical condition. Will be lifting stacks and bundles Of linens constantly, weighing up to 30 pounds.
Will be walking, stooping, and bending frequently. Pushing/ Pulling heavy carts off and onto trucks and trailers, weighing 150 to 1200 pounds.
The type of truck used for deliveries is a pickup; (3/4 ton) to 16000-pound warehouse box truck.
The employee exerts light physical effort in reaching, bending, turning, or moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to operate hand and foot controls.
The employee exerts moderate physical effort in the frequent handling of objects weighing up to 40 pounds, and the occasional handling of heavier objects while loading cargo, with the assistance of other workers or weight handling equipment.
Work is performed inside and out. Frequent transitions from heated interior space to frigid exterior temperatures are common during winter months and extreme heat in summer.
There exists a potential for exposure to infectious diseases in patient areas while handling soiled laundry.
Working in storage areas and loading dock, incumbent will be exposed to drafty, varying temperature changes throughout tour of duty. Works around moving carts in a noisy, hot, humid environment.
Vehicles are operated in a wide variety of weather conditions, in a controlled traffic environment.
Exposure to dirt, fumes and the possibility of cuts, bruises and broken bones as a result of accidents while driving, or from falling objects when loading and unloading the vehicle. Major Duties:
Linen Processing An electronic or online program will be used to order all linen needs from vendor. All clean linens shipped/delivered will be weighted, all soiled linen collected will be weighed.
Weights will be recorded and collected for management. Weights will be used for annual reports and customer billing/invoicing.
Is required to be able to enter linen data into Microsoft Excel spreadsheets for tracking and trending. As well as use Microsoft Outlook email.
Received items (i.e., scrubs, pajamas, etc.) will be paired, folded, counted, stacked, and stored.
Received textile items (i.e., bed sheets, blankets, pillowcases, dish towels, etc.) will be collected and consolidated into set quantities.
Each individual linen cart will be loaded, tagged then covered to prevent contamination in transit.
Carts will then be loaded onto trailers or truck (in a prescribed manner to conserve space) for a specified destination.
When linen is delivered to destinations, each delivered area linens will be rotated with the older linens at the top of the stack, and the newly received linen at the bottom of the stack.
(This will ensure that vendor linen losses are kept to a minimum).
Is responsible for working in a sanitary environment and preparing linens by inspecting, folding, and stocking to specified quantities for delivery.
Assurance that at no time will soil linens, share the same space with clean linens. Will perform all other duties assigned to them in verbal or written form.
Oversees a separate 96-hour contingency supply of linen.
Linen Delivery Carts will be delivered to destinations within PVAHCS and NVAHCS (i.e., all inpatient wards, sleep lab, hematology/oncology, acupuncture, canteen, kitchen, blind rehab residential, imagining, emergency room, Intensive care unit, infusion, nuclear medicine, echo lab, dental, sterile processing, hemodialysis, operating room, PACU, step-down unit, residential nursing home east, residential nursing home west, residential medical unit, physical therapy, locked unit mental health, coffee shop, women's mammography and MRI, woman's' clinic, homeless program, residential mental health, all outpatient clinics, all specialty clinics, etc.).
Carts can weigh between 150 to 1200 lbs. Government vehicle will be signed out for through Motor Pool.
Truck will be either medium to small warehouse style box truck (Non-CDL) or regular truck/pickup with liftgate capabilities.
Will be required to operate a government vehicle for purposes of delivering linens.
Tracking inventory and collect soiled linens to and from Community Based Outpatient Clinic's (CBOC's) and other designated locations on an re-occurring basis.
Must possess and maintain a Valid Driver's License. Housekeeping Duties Responsible for full cleanliness and sanitation of work area and equipment.
Off Scheduled Deliveries Delivers linen during shortages outside of scheduled days/times, performs small piece work or other jobs as assigned by supervisor.
This includes deliveries that are not reoccurring and on-call. Participates in semi-annual linen inventories and performs other related duties as assigned. Performs other related duties as assigned.
