Incumbent performs a wide variety of duties including, but not limited to, operation of motor vehicles, pick-up/delivery of clean and soiled linens, and restocking linen carts.
Duty Location: Chillicothe VA Medical Center, Chillicothe, OH. SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR (SCREEN-OUT) - A Selective Placement Factor (SPF) has been identified for this position.
Selective Placement Factors (SPF) are a prerequisite to appointment and represent minimum requirements for the position. Applicants who do not meet the SPF are ineligible for further consideration.

PLUS (Screen Out) You must have the ability to perform the work of a Motor Vehicle Operator without more than normal supervision.
This would include the ability to perform tasks common to motor vehicle operation such as operate vehicles to haul cargo pick-up and delivery of laundry items to and from a designated area, place bags of soiled linen into linen push carts from soiled linen storage areas for transport, assist with restocking of linen carts, sorting and bundling of clothing, operate vehicles off station on public roads for the purpose of refueling and as needed.
PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS: Heavy physical effort is required in daily handling of carts loaded with items weighing from 300 to 450 pounds or more.
These carts are loaded from a dock into the truck for delivery. At the delivery point they are pushed or pulled onto a power lift tailgate, lowered to the ground then pushed or pulled into buildings.
The same physical effort is required to move items weighing 425 pounds or more from the building to the truck.
Incumbent must be able to maneuver push carts in and out of small areas, such as linen rooms. Must be able to stoop, bend, push and lift.
Must be able to load bags of soiled linen weighing 125 pounds into push carts.
The Motor Vehicle Operator is required to work outside and inside and is occasionally exposed to bad weather conditions while loading and unloading vehicles.
Drives in all types of traffic and weather and is exposed to the possibility of serious accidents.
The operator is subject to cuts, bruises and broken bones as a result of accidents while driving or when loading and unloading vehicles.
Transportation of soiled linen and wet linen makes tasks offensive at times. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualifications.

NOTE: This is a TEMPORARY (not-to-exceed 1 year position). The position could potentially end earlier than 1 year.
This appointment may be renewed for additional service in accordance with Agency needs for 1 additional year.
Temporary positions offer health insurance (if the employee is expected to work at least 130 hours per month for at least 90 days) but do not offer life insurance or retirement benefits and may be terminated at any time before the expiration date.
The appointment to a Temporary position does not confer eligibility for promotion or reassignment to other positions or the ability to be non-competitively converted to permanent employment.
Major duties and responsibilities include: Operates a vehicle for the pick-up and delivery of laundry items to and from designated areas on station.
Assists with restocking of linen carts, sorting and bundling of patient's personal clothing, and helps to maintain the cleanliness of the Linen Distribution facility.
Places bags of soiled linen into linen push carts from soiled linen storage areas for transport to Linen Distribution.
Ensures the delivery truck is cleared of any noticeable debris prior to loading with clean linen.
Loads items in truck in proper sequence to reduce unloading time and secures cargo to prevent shifting while in transit.
Assures that patients' personal clothing is delivered from the laundry to the patient buildings.
Performs preventive maintenance checks and services to laundry truck daily, including checking all fluids, tire pressure and inspecting for damages.
Operates vehicles off station on public roads for the purpose of refueling and as needed. Performs work order data entry. Performs other related duties as assigned.
DESIGNATED DRUG-TESTING POSITION: Applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA. Applicants will not be appointed to the position if a verified positive drug test result is received.
