Full Job Description

The Smithsonian Institution is the world's largest museum, education, and research complex, with 21 museums and the National Zoo.

This position is located in the Finance and Administration department of the Hirshhorn Museum Sculpture Garden (HMSG).

Experience: You qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 level in the Federal Service.

For this position, specialized experience is defined as experience providing administrative duties for an office, unit or organization; creating and reviewing purchase orders for the purpose of procuring services, equipment, and supplies for an organization; monitoring funds expenditures and balances, including fund reconciliation; and communicating and enforcing procurement and/or travel rules and regulations for an organization.

Major Duties:

The Mission Support Specialist provides financial management, support budget formulation and execution, management procurement activities, and other administrative functions.

In this position, you will: Procure goods and services, verifying the availability of funds, preparing contracts and purchase orders, and ensuring that goods and services are received, accounted for, and paid for.

Assist museum staff in the effective, prompt and policy-compliant procurement of goods and services utilizing purchase orders, purchase cards, online travel tools, reimbursement procedures and various inter-unit transfer procedures.

Assist with the formulation, presentation, execution, and analyses of organizational budgets that support HMSG's mission and functions.

Analyze, monitor, and track expenses and net operating results for assigned areas to ensure proper allocation and effective use of funds during the execution phase of the annual budget.
