Full Job Description

The Michigan State Police (MSP) is looking for current Michigan MCOLES licensed officers who are interested in becoming troopers.

For those looking for a career serving the community, being a role model and making a difference in many lives, Michigan State Police has opportunities within its ranks performing a full range of state-wide law enforcement assignments including road trooper, community service trooper, canine handler, tactical bike officer, crime scene technician, emergency services team, narcotics investigations, cyber-crime, bomb squad member, and many other career path opportunities.

Appointed applicants are initially assigned as recruits (earning a paycheck and health insurance benefits) to the MSP Training Academy Recruit School to complete the training program (approximately 12 weeks), as well as other course work and physical training intended to provide the knowledge and skills required to function as a State Police Trooper.

Applicants are asked to submit three preferred post locations when receiving their conditional offer of employment.

Every effort is made to fulfill post location requests while balancing the operational needs of the agency.

All applicants will receive their post assignment in their Appointment Letter prior to recruit school starting. Successful completion of recruit school is mandatory for continued employment.

Upon graduating from recruit school, the probationary trooper at their assigned State Police post must satisfactorily complete an 18-month probationary period in this classification.

Successful completion of the probationary period is mandatory for continued employment.
