About the Position: The Watervliet Arsenal is an Army-owned & operated manufacturing center located in New York.

It is the oldest, continuously active arsenal in the United States having begun operations in 1813. Today it is relied upon by U.S.

and foreign militaries to produce the most advanced, high-powered weaponry for cannon, howitzer, and mortar systems.

The Arsenal is the only location in the DoD that has a weapons research facility (Benét Labs) collocated with a manufacturing facility.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Metal Processing Supervisor without more than normal supervision.

(1) Exercise full supervisory or leader responsibility of operations to include fabricating, welding, forging, repairing, manufacturing, and reconditioning of metal parts, components, assemblies, and/or subassemblies; (2) Supervise/lead employees engaged in technical work related to metal processing and/or manufacturing operations; and (3) Provide direction to others and instruct and demonstrate correct work methods.

Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc.

(includes blueprint reading) Ability To Lead or Supervise Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Dexterity and Safety Knowledge of Metals Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Major Duties:

• Exercise full supervisory responsibility over metal processing operations, rotary forge operations, and related pre-heat, post-heat, and quench operations; and welding and metal fabrication functions.
• Supervise the manufacturing of composite materials and the operation of automated waterjet profile cutting equipment.
• Manage the testing of materials, including the manufacture and testing of tensile and charpy specimens.
• Manage the complex industrial organization using modern management tools and systems for all forging, heat treatment, and machining.
• Act as a liaison to assist research engineers with matters related to cannon manufacturing technology.
